Ipad 2 or wait?
Hey,
I'd really like to buy an Ipad 2. The only concern I have is that they're £400, and i'm hearing lots of rumours that an ipad 3 is being launched in February. Is it worth forgetting about the ipad 2 and just waiting for the release of an ipad 3, or perhaps just look at getting a second hand ipad 2 from ebay rather than paying full cost? |

IMO the upgrade for the iPad 3 will be minimal and if you want one just get it, you won't regret it
![]() A good site to use when thinking about buying an Apple product is http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ with 24th February (Steve's birthday) being the latest rumour. |

FWIW USA Today has a rumour about the iPad 3 being announced in Jan-12. Obviously this may to total tosh or it might be true. Here's the link:

If Apple stick to their usual 12 month cycles, iPad 2 will be announced in about March/April and deliveries will be May/June.
I don't think it'll be jan/feb and I doubt they'd be cheesy enough to announce it on his birthday. Personally, I'd wait. |

I would wait, if they do bring out the iPad 3 the iPad 2 should come down in price, so you will be able to make a more informed decision.

Wait! iPad: April 2010 iPad 2: March 2011 As for the upgrade being only "minimal"... Doubt it. One thing all the rumours do agree on is that the next iPad will have the iPad equivalent of a "Retina display", with a resolution of 2048x1536 instead of the current 1024x768. Other likely upgrades are apparently another CPU/GPU bump, from a dual-core A5 to a quad-core A6. Quote:

The iPad 2 was announced and launched in March 2011, and people were getting them from March onwards. Sure, some people had to wait if they didn't get in on time, but it's not like everyone had to wait until May/June. |

Just wait for the ipad 4,then when the 5 come's out you can buy that and join the ever growing group of people blindly lining Apple's pockets."Oh man my ipad 2 sucks cos everyone else has got a 3"

Deliveries in May/June? Only if you miss the launch.

If you look at the Sony Playstation Vita you will see the SOC that is highly likely to be inside the February/March iPad 3.
The doubling of GPU cores means the iPad 3 actually has real gaming abilities above that of the 99p APP. The doubling of the CPU does likewise meaning it competes fine against a netbook. I'm guessing that Sony will also launch an iPad size Vita then too. That larger size will certainly be cheaper to make and is exactly the same type of gadget as the iPad. That extra functional interfacing may also arrive on iPad 3. |

Wait!
iPad: April 2010 iPad 2: March 2011 As for the upgrade being only "minimal"... Doubt it. Games already look amazing on the ipad2, and 99% of them work on the ipad1. |

Sony have no choice.
This is certainly where the games industry is heading big time. |

The trouble is if you wait for the 'next big thing(tm)' by the time it comes out the rumours will already be flying around about the 'next big thing #2(tm)'.

Apple's also hardly the only company to release a new model each year. Quote:
You have to be very lucky to get one in the first couple of weeks after they're on sale. The reality is that typically people who order more than a couple of hours after they're on sale will end up getting them a month or so later.

We will see, the display on the ipad2 is very sharp and clear so it being a higher res I don't class as a massive upgrade. I think it's likely that we won't see the A6 but even if we do what will it do that the A5 can't?
Games already look amazing on the ipad2, and 99% of them work on the ipad1. I think it's a rather large upgrade myself. As for the CPU/GPU... well, you could also say what can the A5 do that the A4 can't? Or, what can a Core i3 do that a single-core Pentium can't? What can a Core i5 do that a Core i3 can't? It's faster, it's more powerful. Better CPU and GPU, and a higher res. screen = better for video, better for games, etc. Quote:

If you get an iPad 3 in March/April, you shouldn't have to "worry" about the "next big thing" for another year. |

Behind the curve a tad though.
It does like like Sony is staking a lot on the success of the Vita. Its ageing portfolio is certainly in need of a new success story. |

So it's definitely worth waiting for a month, than to choose the iPad 2. |

A recent news have confirmed that Apple would be announcing their new Tablet series in the iWorld-2012 which is to be held in 26th January. You may wait until that to know Apple's future plans on the Tablet market.

I was going to watch for an iPad 3 as I've been desperate for one for ages. Last week I thought, **** it, I'm not going to go another 5/6 months without one. So bought myself an iPad 2. I'm happy with my purchase and I'll now probably get the iPad 4.
Stop putting it off, if you want something - just get it!
