Why would I be 'blindly' lining apples pockets? I'm well aware that apple produce the iPad and that any profits from the sale go directly to Apple.
Its called conditioning, through clever marketing and false rumours of a shortage at launch Apple have got saps lining up outside stores to buy the latest product they can't live without and need to have to shore up their imaginary social standing and "coolness".and Oh boy do Apple milk them for all their worth, rushing like sheep to pay the $1 to the £ price tag while apple flicks them the finger and says"That the price, take it or leave we don't care, but we know you'll take it because your nobody with out an Apple to wave around in the pub boring you friends to death with the latest coolest and totally pointless App"
Oh man my ipad 2 sucks because all the others have an ipad3.

Of the few bits I gathered from that -

Don't most companies update their products on a yearly basis? Laptops are forever being updated, as our PC's, TV's, games consoles, games themselves. The FIFA franchise brings out a new game every year, when the current one is always good enough.

And you've still not really answered my question, i'm well aware that i'll be paying Apple money for their products, i'm aware that in the grand scheme of things their products are overpriced, but I choose to pay for them. So I don't really see how that's blind, stupid perhaps, but not blind...

I shouldn't have really replied, this strikes me as a very poor attempt at trolling. The poor grammar and punctuation give the game away.

Behind the curve a tad though.

It does like like Sony is staking a lot on the success of the Vita. Its ageing portfolio is certainly in need of a new success story.
It's unfortunate. Sales in Japan were big the first couple of days but had dropped by the end of the first week. There were rumours of supply problems, but that seems unlikely as the report only said they'd sold about 300,000, and the device has been planned and announced for months.

I had a PSP a few years back, and it was cool, but there wasn't a broad enough choice of games, and carrying those little cartridges around was a pain in the backside.

Digitimes and other sites with sources in the supply chain have been saying for a while that it will have a resolution bump.

I think it's a rather large upgrade myself.

As for the CPU/GPU... well, you could also say what can the A5 do that the A4 can't? Or, what can a Core i3 do that a single-core Pentium can't? What can a Core i5 do that a Core i3 can't?

It's faster, it's more powerful.

Better CPU and GPU, and a higher res. screen = better for video, better for games, etc.
That's a bad comparison, there are tons of apps and games for a PC that takes advantage of a faster processor but after a year there is hardly any apps that take advantage of the iPad 2 and the ones that do are usually because of the increase in RAM. The only real advantage of having a better GPU is to support the new high res screen.

There may not be loads, but there are some. Infinity Blade 2 and GTA 3 spring to mind.

As well as better graphics for games, these rumoured changes would also mean the iPad 3 would be better for video... 1080p iTunes videos at last perhaps? 1080p MKVs via AVPlayerHD?

Yup. Apple is far from the only company to release a new version each year. Look at Samsung and the Galaxy S, for example. Some other companies even release new versions more than once per year. Is someone who bought a Galaxy S then an S II, and next plans to buy an S III, some sort of "Samsung Sheep"? Are people who only buy Android devices "Android Sheep"? It's funny. It seems on DS it's only ever the Apple customers who get insulted and called "sheep" etc., and it's only ever the Apple customers who get accused of blindly falling for marketing. Why don't people see that we buy products because we want to and because they do what we want/need them to do.

As for pricing... I wouldn't even say that the iPad is overpriced. I think it's probably the only Apple product that isn't. If it is overpriced, then surely so are all the other high-end tablets which all launched at exactly the same price point. Although some like the Xoom, PlayBook, and TouchPad have since had massive price cuts due to failing miserably, I believe the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the new Sony tablet still have the same RRP as the iPad 2 (e.g. £479 32GB WiFi only, £559 64GB WIFi only, add £100 for 3G). EDIT: Actually, a quick check has found that Sony has cut the price of the Tablet S, which can now be found for £429 instead of £479. I guess that hasn't been doing great either then if Sony's had to knock a bit off, although I doubt it's done as badly as the Xoom or PlayBook.

I agree of course cos if you were to say that the iPad 2 is overpriced then that would mean samsung overprice their products heh lol

It's unfortunate. Sales in Japan were big the first couple of days but had dropped by the end of the first week.
New devices always have large initial sales from pre-orders and loyal fans.
The difference here is that it is not an iPad so those initial high sales won't be used as promotional material everywhere and anywhere.

What is interesting is that this could also be considered a battle between the 99c APP and the $20+ high end studio game.

Quite why you needed to direct that insult at the OP who doesn't have an iPad 1, and is carefully investigating the pros and cons of getting a 2 now versus waiting for the 3, is beyond me.

OP: unless you are flush or totally impatient, it is probably worth waiting until Apple announce what changes will be made to the 3 - then you can decide if the price difference is worth it to you.
