I have a Boyzone CD, and my CD player decided to crash and totally scratch up this CD, It still plays, but I honestly have no idea how. It looks like it's been through a meat grinder!

For me, the scratches that are now covering the CD do not bother me. I have other things to worry about if the disc plays well enough, I buy 'em for the music not their good looks!

However, I know some people who if they get just one scratch on a disc, they will purchase a replacement copy, even if the disc plays well!

That's really weird! It doesn't bother me if my CD's have scratches as long as it doesn't impair the quality

Not as long as it still plays without skipping

Tell me about it! Most of my CD's have maybe one or two scratches, but even said Boyzone one with millions of scratches due to my CD player doesn't bother me, as after testing it, it still plays. If I went out and replaced a CD everytime it got scratched, I'd be in the red, haha!

That's me. Hate having scratches on them as I like perfection. Have only ever replaced a couple and got remastered releases instead so bit of a sound upgrade too! Never ever lend them to anyone now as people don't know how to handle them. I've had some 20 years and they're in mint condition still without even a hairline scratch. If I buy a brand new one with a scratch on it then I return it for another one.

BTW scratches don't seem to affect how CD's play as much as they affect how a DVD plays!

I don't own a single CD without any scratches, all the result of over playing! The scratches don't bother me as long as it still plays properly.

Doesn't bother me unless it affects the playing of the music.
I hate having scratches on CD cases though, it really just ruins the aesthetics for me, although I wouldn't go out and buy a new copy because of a scratch/crack.

I have no problem as long as they play fine. I do hate it when I lend CDs out to people and they come back scratched because they can't be bothered to treat them with respect.

I'm terrible with CD cases. I'm always dropping them, cracking them, snapping the bits that attach to the bottom part off, etc.

I havn't played a CD in 2 years, not as good buying online but it's easier.

As for the post - I used to try to take care of my CD's but they still always ended up 'scratchy'

Surface scratches are ok, it's the deeper ones you have to worry about

Unfortunately since I buy a lot of my CDs second-hand I have to put up with lots of scratched discs. As others have said, as long as it doesn't affect the music it isn't really a problem, though I do try to treat my CDs with care and avoid scratching them as much as possible.

I hate the lil plastic bit in the middle of CD cases that hold the CD in place..nearly all mine are broken so my cd just falls off and shakes around inside the box ..all these advices in technology but they still wont make a plastic thingy that wont break after 10 uses.

Not keen on the cellophane they use to wrap the cd in as well...sometimes its impossible to break into when you are dying to play your new cd..and you have to resort to using teeth and nails to open it
