Cora- can she step into Peggy/Pat/Pauline's shoes?
Pauline, gone, Peggy, gone and Pat...soon to go we now only have Dot, Cora and Rose as the female OAPs in Albert Square..out of these three Cora is more close to the others in age although I think Rose is of a similar age but Cora is a more rounded character than Rose so do you all see Cora stepping up now and taking the Pat/Peggy place in the Square?

There will never be a replacement for those characters so they should continue developing Cora as they are all already, into an interesting character in her own right. Trying to re-create previous successes just doesn't work. Look how desperate they are to re-create the success of the Mitchell brothers... and how it keeps falling flat on its face.

well here is her chance...I really hope so because the character has proven to be one of BK's only good choices this year..

I don't think she should be compared to these characters. Them three are all iconic in their own right, Cora isn't currently but she could well become one in the future.

I would not want Pauline, Pat or Peggy to be replaced but Cora has the depth of character and a history to be as equally as good as these women and Ann Mitchell can carry it off...

I think if she was in EE for a good few years, Cora could eventually become the new EE matriarch, providing her storylines and characterisation work out

Cora has no links to the square apart from Tanya. She is not part of it's history. Good character but you can't rush it..if she stays maybe she will become more interesting in time.

I think Cora needs more links other than just Tanya, but yes the character and actress are more than capable of being a new EE matriarch. I hope she is developed and used more in 2012.

As for the OP's question - maybe, but I don't think so. |

And to be honest, Pat and Pauline could never be replaced by anyone. Peggy, on the other hand, had her place but was a bit of a hollow character from about the late 90's onwards. |

Cora obviously is becoming a great character in her own right so she is an obvious choice to fill the gap.
And with Pat going, Carol is automatically going to become the head of the Butcher clan now. I loved Carol first time round in EE, I wish they would make her less miserable. Cracking actress though |

I do like the idea of Carol stepping up to become head of the Butchers and I also would love Janine/Bianca to be a new version of Peggy/Pat. Zainab/Masood are the new Pauline & Arthur-a couple that just belong together.

I hate Cora. She just comes across as an angry old hag. Legend? Nah.

She defo has 'matriach' qualities about her - just a few more years required!
