Car Radio

Hi
our car radio is goose'd and me and the wife both have Android phones that we would like to have hooked upto a new car radio

knowing very little about in car devices these days need some help please

after trawling the net for the last few days it appears that they sell digital media receiver's or 'Mechs'
that dont have CD and allow hook up of phones etc
which looks like a good device

finding actual reviews on these things is not as easy as I thought
Amazon users give a couple of lines such as Yay or Nay

we have a budget of about £200 and for that I want front USB Blue tooth
CD player not wanted
and it must be able to work well for calls and music playback with Android and of course easy to use
would also like the front fascia to come off

so can you guys who are far more Knowledgeable than me suggest good buys and point me to reviews

I seem to have about 5 models in mind around the £150-200 region
not sure if this is the right forum for this so if not please put in the correct one
Thanks

forgot to add a single din is the size and the current radio setup can be controlled via the steering wheel dials
would a 3rd party device also do that??

Don't really know much about head unites but I think the best makes to look at are Kenwood and pioneer these seem to be the best for car audio.

For sub £200 there's not much between any of them really. I personally favour Alpine and can't stand Kenwood, but anything would work as well as the next for simply plugging into a standard set of OEM speakers for nothing advanced.

I tend to take online reviews with a pinch of salt (a very large pinch) and start with a completely open mind. Narrow it down to a few you like for whatever reason (looks, features, whatever...) then download the manuals and just keep narrowing it down, look closer at the features and see if there's some that you decide are necessary or not, look at the ease of use etc... Eventually you'll end up with only 1 device. Could also pop into Halfords and see what they have on display, at least you can have a play even if they are expensive at times.

I have a Sony Bluetooth unit with bluetooth, front USB, front aux input, infrared remote, steering control compatible etc. It works with pendrives, android phones as well as ipods/iphones. It's all controlled by the head unit itself.

I can't remember the exact model but i think it's on sale in Halfords for about £100 now.

I use a Sony headest too. It's not got a USB slot, but it does have Bluetooth that works for both handsfree calling and playing audio from the handset through the headset.

The headset works very well for both features as well as playing MP3 CDs, not just standard audio ones.

It has a great feature where you can press 'CALL' and it will list the handset's phone book to select the person you want to call. That works well on most handsets but HTC handsets aren't fully supported sadly. They work well enough to use them but you can't set favourite numbers and the alphabetic listing doesn't always work, you have to scroll through everything to find a contact sometimes.

Really good sound quality and it pairs up quickly. Well worth a look
