Why is Kate Ford never up for Best Actress awards?
As much as i like Suranne Jones playing Karen McDonald i dont understand how she's always up and Kate Ford isnt to me i know shes always up for Best Bitch etc and sometimes wins but i believe she should be taking the best actress award home.

You want to know why? I can actually tell you, as can many.
She can't act. |

Um, she has been up for acting awards. Anyway, she'sa good but not brilliant - certainly not a patch on Suranne Jones.

She's improved a lot, but she's not even the best actress in the Barlow household, never mind The Street. Compare her efforts last night to Sue Cleaver's in the midst of the whole Todd/Karl fallout. Kate Ford can only look and learn.

I can see her winning the Ronseal award but nothing else. She only has one expression - that awful toothy grin - and she's been pretty unconvincing in most of the scenes in which she's appeared.

I think she is a very weak actress and to think she had the nerve to call some of the EE cast crap.

She's not that bad. Much, much better than when she first arrived, and, to be honest, I think she has more difficult stuff to do than Suranne Jones, who really only has to be demented and say "bey-beh" a lot. Tracy is much less obviously OTT/entertaining/likeable person than Karen, and is a character with huge amounts of CS baggage and heritage, so it's a more demanding part.

I think what has been perhaps the biggest problem (if I can call it that) for Kate has been those she's acting alongside.
Tracy has been involved in some of the biggest Street storylines since 2002 and as far as I'm concerned the acting talent of her co-stars has always far outweighed that of Kate, so of course she will come across as being weak. David Neilson and Julie Hesmondhalgh showed their brilliance during the whole "Tracy, selling the baby" thing, and since then Suranne Jones and Simon Gregson have always shown Kate up. |

However after al this time, you would think that acting alongside Blanche, Roy, Steve and Karen etc would have helped Kate more by now, by virtue of them dragging her upwards with them. It happened to Simon G when he started working with Suranne - he improved immeasurably. |

She has improved drastically since she arrived.. but I agree she's still not close to being in the Best Actress category just yet. I think her scenes with Steve when they argued about Amy in the street and had the child sitting in her pram between them both, were probably her best to date. Can't help but notice how Tracy's lines always seem to be punctuated with a "yeah?" these days. Anyone else noticed this?

I do not think Kate is one of the weakest actors in Corrie more like the strongest.

Kate Ford is wooden beyond belief. Watch the scene again when Mike Baldwin confronted her in The Rovers about trying to defraud Penny and it was chronic to watch it. Watch any scene from the Tracy / Roy & Hayley storyline & Julie Hesmondhlagh & David Nielson act her off the screen. Kate Ford has been up for the Best Actress award but that isn't any reflection of her talent (or lack thereof). She was nominated as Best Actress in the Soap Awards by the Coronation Street porduction team purely on the grounds that she's featured in a number of high profile storylines. That's the way nominees for these awards are always chosen. It's the reason why someone like Sue Cleaver (Eileen) who has more acting talent in her little finger that Kate Ford can ever hope to have will never get nominated - because she's not a high profile enough character. Lippincote said that Simon Gregson improved a lot when he started working with Suranne Jones & that is certainly true - she's brought out the best in him. Kate Ford has had Anne Kirkbride (Deirdre), Bill Roache (Ken), Maggie Jones (Blanche), Julie Hesmondhalgh (Hayley) and David Nielson (Roy) to watch & learn from, but she's still almost as wooden as the very first day she arrived on the cobbles. The sooner she leaves the better...... |
