In Eastenders i can't think of one person apart from Nurse Sonia who doesn't work in Albert Square? Can You?

In Corrie almost every woman works in the factory on the street?
The men either work in the Taxi Firm, Mechanics, or shops on the street.
All the other woman have at least been a barmaid at the Roves once or at the Hairdressers.
I'll give you Cilla works at the other local pub and Maya works at a law firm but Maya will be gone soon and im sure in time Cilla will get a job on the street.

Who would have a thought a whole village could all get jobs in the village.
All the women work at Pollards factory, the pub or shop/factory and the men work at the pub, antique place or at the kings.

Does everyone you know work on your street, square etc.
I know its only a soap but a find at rather funny.

what do you mean? in Eastenders alone

Michelle works in America
Little Mo is a full time mother somewhere
Kaffy Beale is in Sarf Africa presumably still serving in a Kaff

All these integral characters work in these non AS places yet still find time to phone their relatives when there are important Faahmily events going on.

What do you mean?..they are always on the phone...Kaff to Ian, Michelle to Pauwine...of course they are still in it..even though they don't show them, and the camera always focusses on the person who lives in the Square, they are still on the other end of the phone?? aren't they? or are they like the imaginary Saarfend, up West and Manchester??

The reason they all work in the same place is because it is easier for storylines to work along side each other.

I think the reason why is pretty obvious ... if they all commuted off to work every morning there would be no-one there to film

in all soaps, all characters seem to live, work and socialise within a 50 square foot area!

in Emmerdale, they almost die of fright at going to Leeds
in EE, they are always going "up-west" which sounds like a major trek

sorry I don't agree...if some are shown busy commuting to work, that gives the space for some storyline to maturely develop, instead of a choas of every single characters are in the shot frame, jumble up together.....sometimes it's like watching "chicken run"

Yup, thats exactly right. Its much easier to have them work in the same place. It makes continuity much easier and enables the characters to interact with each other.

EE:
Sonia works in the Hospital
Vicki goes to college

Can't really think of anyone else

Corrie:
Ken is a teacher
Deirdre works for the council
Cilla works at the Weatherfield Arms
Penny has her own factory
Martin works at the hospital
Dev has other shops
Maya works for a law firm
Kirk works at the Kennels

The reason we see everyone working in the same places is because the storylines are based on a community. This is why the Ferreiras didn't work as they didn't intergrate well into the community. It would be too much to concentrate on to see them commuting and too many characters would be introuduced. It is all about how characters intergrate and by them working outside the set would not allow this and it would be a series of seperate storylines.

It isn't very realisitic but how many of us would like to work on outr doorsteps instead of commuting...I would!!!

And dont forget - everyone only ever drinks in the Vic, or Rovers, and in EE the only club they ever go to is E20.

Mind you, if Martin had gone to Prague like real life 'imaginative' blokes tend to for his stag do, none of this Sarah business would ever have happened....
