Sony Reader PRS-T1 and E-Books

Hi everybody,

I just bought a Sony reader and it's due to arrive tomorrow. I've tried a Kindle before and we didn't get on. I haven't a clue where to start with looking for e-books for the Sony? Can I buy off Amazon or not?

And would anybody know where to buy ebooks from?

Any advice hugely appreciated!

Thank you

You can get loads of free books here.

.epub is probably best on the Sony Ereaders.

I don't know if you can buy on amazon.

Sony are partnered with Waterstones & WHS.

They were going to have their own book store in Europe, like their US store, unless perhaps the sony.uk site is it.

You can buy epub books from almost anywhere except amazon.

Also many book sellers do free books such as http://www.whsmith.co.uk/CatalogAndS...reeebooks.aspx

http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...oks-online.htm has a list of 446 places for free books as well.

plus if you have a newsgroup service from your isp then theres thousands of books available on there just look for epub and stear clear of .mobi unless you are willing to covert using caliber.

I have collected a library of over 30,000 books all for free......

Brilliant! All the advice has been great, have got a few on my reader now and will definitely be passing the information around to non-kindle users.

My other question - what case can I get for this reader? having issues finding enough for a prs-t1. Can I use a case that would fit a Kindle 4 or an older version of the sony reader?

Really appreciated. Thank you!

What didn't you like about the Kindle that the Sony does better?

I kinda went the other way. I had one of the early Sony e-readers and thought it was hopeless. I actually gave up on non-backlit e-readers until finally getting a Kindle and then I was all over it. Still have a sneaking preference for backlit screens though. Damn energy-saving lightbulbs.

It comes in white! I didn't like the black border (casing) or the keyboard or that I couldn't borrow books from my library and that I could only buy from Amazon. I, on principle, refuse to buy something that ties in to one place, for example, iPod and I desperately need a new MP3 player with 30gb or more that is not apple!

I had a go on my friend's Kindle Fire today - good god, it weighs a ton. Won't be getting one of those.

Heavy, I tell you.

The tablet style eReaders will probably all weigh a fair bit, eg Kindle Fire 412g, Kobo Vox 402g (according to wikpedia).

Re MP3 player > 30GB the capacity wasn't the main issue for me but I've just bought a Sansa Clip (4-8GB + micro SD slot up to 32GB). Very small physical size, probably won't suit everyone.

Does PRS-T1 use Android? I wonder if it is possible to jailbreak it and install Kindle app for Android on it. That would mean an ideal ebook reader with both epub and mobi books.

Thanks, I should have googled that myself I found this video, no sound at work so I do not know the author's opinions, but it looks good to me. When my Kindle goes to its maker, I may have a look at the Sony.
