I don't really know what I'm trying to desribe here, but I think I may be going for something like perfomers who have the 'X factor' or something

But who do you think has something special when they're on the stage? I think obviously Michael Jackson and Madonna are great perfomers otherwise they wouldn't have got as far as they have or did today or created such a legacy. I also think that when Adele sings she has something special as while I don't really like her tone of voice particulary I do think she makes everyone connect with her and the lyrics.

And for some reason Britney has that X Factor when going on stage too. I mean I love her, but it's clear she isn't the performer she once was. Like if you watch this performance of S&M by RIhanna and Britney earlier this year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmTRz...layer_embedded.

Now Rihanna goes and sings live for three minutes and sounds fairly bad and just moves around the floor really but the crowd don't seem overly interested and Rihanna doesn't look it either! But then Britney comes out at 2:40 and lip-syncs for 2 minutes and the crowd goes wild and screams even though she lazily lip-syncs, forgets her choreography and walks across the stage.. Few could have that effect on people and I just think it's strange!!

What are your opinions?

Id say back in the day Britney was the ultimate performer, even now she commands a stage and makes everyone look at her, id say she has "it".

Britney for definite, Christina was a better singer, could put on a great performance but lacked something that Britney had that made her stand out.

I think Amy Winehouse had it, but didn't use it nearly enough, but when she was on it, she was mesmerising to watch.

MJ and Madonna as mentioned, Prince also.

Stevie Nicks has the 'X Factor' (I hate to use that term but don't know another way to put it). She has it all - personality, voice, stage presence, audience rapport. Best female performer ever.

There are a few people I feel could go on stage in a binbag, lip synching to If Youre Happy And You Know It and people will still go crazy;
Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Britney, Madonna, Kylie etc.

Taylor Swift? She's as bland and generic as can be. I have heard half a dozen artists who are the same kind of musician.

I didn't mean it like that. I'm saying she could do that and still get good reviews.
And you obviously have experienced her live...

I do like some of her songs as they are damn catchy but she isn't an artist I would follow seriously, each to their own though.

Ann Wilson of Heart is another artist who still has something special after 35 odd years.

Debbie Harry has an amazing stage presence.

If anybody ever gets the chance to go to a Blondie gig, take it!

You'll see terrible dancing (Which I'd take over heaps of choreography any day), get a laugh, and be blown away by how strong the band sound.

Gwen Stefani also seems to be amazing on stage, on the Live In The Tragic Kingdom DVD i always LOL at "Have you heard of a place called San Francisco? Oh you have, well i'm surprised you didn't hear them the other night... THEY WERE SO ****ING LOUD!!".

Nadine along with the other two were born to be leads. That's why she was considered the lead singer.

Madonna - She really couldn't give one flying fudge about her audience, but they still adore her anyway. She has the best stage presence of any pop artist ever, in my opinion. She's not the best singer, but I would take Blond Ambition over anything else any day.

Bono - Again, not the best singer, but he knows how to work an audience.

Bruce Springsteen - Probably puts more energy and star power on stage than 99% of other performers.

I dont like Britney, but I always said she just looked really natural at what she did. She flows when she dances rather than doing just a well rehearsed routine of dance moces stuck together.

For me it's Florence Welch I've never felt as connected to anyones music as much as the FATM band. The lyrics, the composition, the performances all blow me away.

Matt Bellamy from Muse - he hardly says a word, but his whole presence and way of performing has the crowds in the palm of his hand

Robbie Williams. I find him very annoying myself but he draws the fans in somehow.
