Not really. We got our first colour TV in 1974 for the World Cup and it was a 26". I remember going to meet my husband's family for the first time in 1984 and they had a really massive telly, my late father in law insisted on having The Odeon in his living room.

Our first colour telly (mid 1970s?) was one of these:

ITT CK651

It was advertise in gloriously un-PC fashion with a Native American in full warpaint and head-dress intoning "ITT...with tint control", the punchline being that the tint control "stops your redskins looking like palefaces"!

Remember those plastic sheets you sellotaped onto the screen to make it look like a colour tv!!

Here's a Granada colour TV advert from 1977. Snazzy looking slimline colour TV!

I can remember this advert and you may recognise the Granada man - it's Mike from the Nag's Head in Only Fools And Horses.

Yep, I agree. The Elvis estate gave "A Little Less Conversation" the green light. That was the first time they'd allowed an Elvis track to be re-mixed. It gave Elvis his 18th No.1 beating the Beatles and the re-releases gave him 21 UK No.1's in total.

I'm a massive Elvis fan so, even though it was a bit of a rip off, it looks good in the stats!

Ah, a great wee clip. I think Mike was played by the actor Kenneth MacDonald. Such a shame he died so suddenly. He also played a racist baddie in Brookside.

The Thursday late repeat was a tad under 32 minutes so saturdays is unlikely to be longer and the early Thursday one would most likely have had one act cut as their early evening schedules would not usually allow for over run of even 2 minutes .
Saturdays slot just allows for more trailers

My own view is that the same recording getting to Number One twice should only count once in the stats.

Just watching 'The Voice' on BBC1 and thinking they all sound samey/mediocre. What great singing voices they had back then. Leo Sayer, Dave from Showaddywaddy, Manhattan Transfer, Abba. etc They had something special . No-one else sounded like them.

I know people say Showaddywaddy weren't real rock n roll. Well they wrote some good songs themselves and had good voices. Shame their most successful period were cover versions. I liked their self penned stuff.

Sadly it looks like the beeb are not going to show the 31st march 1977 episode on april the 5th (sky at night repeat instead ) it's sad that although they exist thanks to diddy david hamilton recording them and returning them to the beeb, they most likely will never be Seen by the general public
