Hi people,

Being a complete novice and all

A few months ago all you guys were very helpful in helping me set up my TV, Video, DVD recorder and sky box. Eventually got it all sorted.

However, something strange has happenned. Went away for a long weekend. When I returned, I turned on my TV to EXT 1, it's just blank. EXT 2 is still fine, so is teresterial TV. I view the DVD recorder through EXT 1 and record from EXT 2. However, I tried to record to DVD last night and it does not now record?

I haven't changed and settings, moved anything. It seems as if the TV/DVD has lost the settings for EXT 1?

Any ideas guys and girls.

if the screen is just blank, then maybe the scart is not in properly, and before you say you haven't moved anything i'll just point out that scart leads don't need any encouragement to move out of sockets, the little buggers

have you tried the dvd on ext2,just to rule out a dvd fault.if that works ok then try it back in ext1 but with the scart from the sky box.

OK, I have tried changing the scart leads around and still no success.

Just to recap: -

EXT 1 is blank
EXT 2 is fine

I record on DVD from EXT 2. When I try to record, it says “no signal”?

Also strangely when I use to turn off the sky box and then switch it back on again, the DVD recorder would start up and starting recording automatically. Now it doesn’t?

Any more ideas folks? It is so strange as I have not done anything to my set up; it’s just started to do all this.

Try going into the skybox services menu and make sure scart control is on rather than off.
Also if using the rgb option, make sure it is set to rgb. If not then make sure rgb is set to off.

Dunno if this will help but its worth a go.

Tried that, sorry still no use.

Looks like it's calling out an engineer time.

ok,i'm getting confused now,are you having trouble watching the dvd on ext 1 on the tv,or are you having trouble recording into ext 2 on the dvd,as you state ext 1 blank and ext 2 fine, and then you say when you try to record on ext 2 it says no signal.please can you clarify here,is the problem with recording or viewing, and is it dvd recorder end or tv end,and have you checked that the tv is outputting the correct signal out of ext 2 (i.e. tv)if that is what you mean.i hope you don't take this as a moan,as it is not,it is simply trying to narrow down possible causes, but this is not easy with the contradictions in your answers.

Sorry for any confusion.

EXT 1 is blank when switching on the TV (never use to be), but when viewing a DVD it is fine on EXT1.

When recording from EXT2 (like I have always done), it says
"no signal" (never use to do that). It does not also let me record from EXT1.

Does this help...

has the channel on the recorder changed.try putting the recorder on to a normal channel and not ext 2,then put the tv to ext1 and see if you get a picture.

I can only put the recorder on either ext1 or ext2 (always been the same). Still no picture on ext1

I have today telephoned a TV engineer and discussed the problem with him. He said..

"If you have tried new scart leads then it must be a faulty DVD recorder, no point me coming out to have a look..."

Oh well, at least it's still under warranty.

Thanks for every bodies help anyway.

Well I finally got an engineer to come around yesterday. He was here for an hour and a half trying so many things...re-connecting the TV, DVD recorder, Video recorder, sky box...tried new scart leads, new aerials....checking each unit was receiving a signal..etc..etc....he concluded that all the units were working correctly...he couldn't figure out why EXT1 had gone blank.

Finally as a last resort he unplugged the DVD recorder, waited 30 seconds and plugged it back in. Would you know it, it worked!

He said something about "noise coming up the mains supply..can confuse the processors..best to unplug to re-set them selves. It cost me £30 call out charge, thats all.

If only I had thought to do that.

Well happy though.

Yes, a valuable lesson there... whenever a problem occurs, firstly unplug for 1 minute and then see what happens.

All electronic devices like DVD, TV and such have microprocessors and all can 'lock up' if a power surge or 'blip' on the mains power comes along......

Easy to say all this, but I think many TV engineers have looked for nasty odd faults only to find the fault 'cured' when they unplug the equipment and drag it into their repair workshop only to find it works! (me included!)
