Is this the right place for a PC DVD Question?

Sorry if this isn't the correct forum but you all seem a knowledgable lot so you may have the answer anyway!

I've just upgraded my PC to Windows XP and when I tried to play a DVD it asked me to specify what Region I was in. It had the dire warning that once I had selected the region it would not be possible to change it later

Does anyone have a way round this as I have a large DVD collection of both Region 1 and Region 2 titles!

With 98SE and 98Me I was able to use RemoteSelector to automatically make the Region Change. Does this work with XP?

Thanks

Try setting up different profiles, WinXP may allow you to set a different region setting in a different profile.

Try DVD Genie, works for my dvd rom drive running under XP.

Thanks to you both, I'll try both suggestions (if necessary!)
and let you know how I get on.

If your DVD disc is a Warner Bros DVD I'm not surprised.

Got Three Kings for Xmas and PCFriendly is on their discs , and the damn things asks that as well .

So I just played it on the DVD player that came loaded on my PC, so watched it.....

.....until.....

IT STOPPED!!!!!

The same happens with The Matrix, as it also uses PCFriendly. But thank god the indigenous players plays it ok.

WHYWHYWHY can't Warner Bros dump PCFriendly.

When I get a new PC (end of 2003 ) I won't be using it to play DVD's as I will get a stand alone model, because it isn't worth it for the hassle with DVD's.

I think Win XP allows 4 Region Changes. This is done via the Device Manager screen

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, After my last post I found DVD Region Killer which seems to do the job, albeit not automatically.
