Biophilia by Björk is probably my favourite album of 2011.
It took a while for me to get used to some of the music on there but now i really do enjoy it a lot [apart from the final track solstice which bores me]

the standout tracks for me would be thunderbolt [a new favourite] cosmogony, crystalline and mutual core.

I definitley prefer the more experimental music [and vespertine] to the more pop stuff from Björk.

IAMX - Volatile times is another one I enjoyed a lot from 2011, I don't think it's his best album but there are some awesome tracks on there... 7.5/10...

Welcome 2 my Nightmare by Alice Cooper is one i recently bought last month but it's a 2011 album, i'm not really a big proper fan and wasn't expecting it to be very good, but I really enjoy it

We must become the Pitiless censors of Ourselves from John Maus is another favourite, one to listen too at night time!
I couldn't really recommend it though unless you're a fan of electronic stuff, in fact I'd imagine most people would probably think it were rubbish!

Zonoscope by Cut Copy is another 2011 album that I've played quite a bit; need you now which is one of my favourite songs of 2011 for sure!

I also like Pala by Friendly fires quite a lot and the Noah and the Whale album, don't really want to like those bands though as they are annoyingly indie, still though, good albums!

Some others I enjoyed were the new Human League CD Credo [which nobody else bought apparantley!] Don't be a Stranger by an iceland pop group called Feldberg is nice and the Bsides album from Placebo...

also the first two albums by suede were re-released which are of course amazing [though i haven't bought them] and all the smiths albums in a nice box which i've seen in HMV have to be in the top albums of 2011!

some disappointments for me... Bon Iver's album which I thought was pretty boring despite loving his first one... Lupercalia by Patrick Wolf, really liked the first three tracks but that was all... overrated perhaps?
...oh and 50 words for snow by Kate Bush [though i think that i'd probably like that a lot more if I gave it a chance]

it is a pop forum. many people depute this and say it isn't so. however, this forum is largely dominated by people commenting about pop music.
No it's not it's an open forum

Not disputing that the majority of people that post on this site are pop fans though

I like Rock, Metal, alternative music in general (inc. jazz / symphonic sub-genres, electronic, melancholic, experimental music etc.) .Don't mind some quality pop as well even - not much about these days though IMO.Will post my suggestions later.

PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Death Cab for Cutie - Codes and Keys
Within Temptation - The Unforgiving
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Mastodon - The Hunter (athough not their best)
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events (again not their best)
Opeth - Heritage (yet again not their best & I'm a Prog rock fan as well)
Suuns - Zeroes QC
Lamb - 5
Thrice - Major/Minor
Devin Townsend Project - Ghost (Devins ambient / folk / new age side, yet still inspired)
Anathema - Falling Deeper (ambient / fully orchestrated / atmospheric recreations of past album tracks - doesn't really compare to 'We’re Here Because We’re Here' but still a good listen if you like soothing yet interesting, slightly melancholic music)
Primus - Green Naugahyde (experimental alternative jazz / funk rock featuring Les Claypool's bass virtuosity and humor)
dredg - Chuckles And Mr. Squeezy (heavily criticised album by fans - but still a quality pop rock album with a couple of let down tracks)
Puscifer - Conditions of My Parole (a very mellow album as far as Maynard James Keenan is concerned.Combines rock, experimental / industrial electro, trip hop, folk & symphonic influences etc. - interesting genre defying album.Quality)
Ulver - Wars of the Roses (slightly more accessibly album from Trickster G.etc. but still very abtuse though)
Russian Circles - Empros (Pretty much defines Post-Metal instrumental music at the moment)
Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA (definately not Steven Wilson at his best, but there's still some good quality pop rock on this album)
Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
Dutch Uncles - Cadenza (Quality pop rock than reminds me of XTC, although less post-punk & more progressive pop (math pop) influenced.Forget Coldplay this what you should be listening to)
Alison Krauss & Union Station - Paper Airplane (not the normal kind of stuff I listen to but what a quality vocalist - not their best album though)
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - From the Stairwell (Dark & deep ambient trip-hop / orchestrated jazz fusion of the highest order)
Textures - Dualism (Quality alternative / prog metal (with some extreme metal) fusion with good vocalist & alot of melodic guitar riffs)
Pain Of Salvation - Road Salt Two

Probably missed some out, but fairly comprehensive. All these featured in the top 1000 top scrobbled albums on Last.fm as well.So they are popular or at least popularish.

Make A Scene -Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Echoes -Will Young.

Last year i only bought 6 albums, i usually buy 25/30.

Music is not interesting me a the moment, i think i am old.
No, I don't think it's that you are getting old.It has been a poor year for chart music.Far too many artists & popular genres that are past their sell by dates or struggling to keep up with their peaks.Don't think the media, in general , is very interested in promoting something too different either.Listeners seem to be quite conservative in their tastes as well - there's alot of alternatives out there people - not saying my list above would suit everyones tastes, there's alot inbetween my favs & the high selling albums as well.People need to be a little more inquisitive to more underground music (even in the pop sphere) & less spoon-fed I feel.
