Makes sense really. Did anyone think that browsing the internet for free everywhere would last forever (or even a few years)???

I was almost annoyed then, but then I see that existing "Kindle Keyboard" owners are not affected.

No doubt someone will find a way to defeat the block for the newer Kindles. It certainly reduces the point of paying quite a premium for 3G if all you can do is buy books and look at Wikipedia.

True though to be fair the Kindle is designed for downloading and reading books, it is not meant to be a internet browsing device.

TBH, as a 'kindle keyboard' owner, even if they stopped all 'experimental' internet access, the service I have received worldwide, for free, over the last year has probably paid for the unit when compared to equivalent roaming charges for a 'phone.

That was the best feature of the 3G version IMHO. Still at least the Kindle 3 3G/Keyboard version will still be ok (for now).

Best feature? Really? The kindle has many virtues, but it's a pretty lousy web browser.

Yes the browser sucks. But it's free and works pretty much worldwide.

Same here. Even out and about in the UK, when away from home the choice has been between my pay as you go phone and my Kindle 3G, for what is very lightweight browsing in my case. I reckon I've already saved the extra cost of the 3G.

I don't care. The Kindle is an e book reader not an Internet tablet. It's function is to download and read books/newspapers/magazines.

Well, I have 3G Keyboard and it's been really nice to be able to use the browser abroad, not that I use it extensively, neither I had bought it because of that.

Not yet. If use is not abused just maybe it will last.

On the iPhone 4, Siri got immediately discontinued when the 4S arrived. So has this been 'Fired'?

I've never needed a mobile phone, working at home, so I've found the internet access on my v2 handy when travelling. Could live without it, though. Bit of a distraction from reading, to be honest - deliberately bought a wi-fi only v3 to avoid that.

Did I miss something? Are we back in October?

They haven't discontinued 3G web browsing as the model affected never had it in the first place - nor is it even available in the UK.

Siri has never been officially available on any device other than an iPhone 4S
