My hair started to recede in my early 20's,and by my late 20's it was very thin at the front. It didnt particularly bother me because i could still 'get away with' having a short spiky hairstyle.
But over the last 6 months it has started to get very thin at the crown, and it is really getting to me.
I have never had a shaved head, and the prospect of walking into a barbers and getting my entire head shaved depresses the hell out of me.
I have been looking at the prospect of the 'wayne rooney' type hair transplant, but i think it would cost in the region of 30 grand.
I also saw the tv ad for caffeine shampoo, that is supposed to thicken hair.
Any advice?

You don't have to have your head shaved - just keep it short all the way round and it'll be fine. No one will look twice at it as you will appear completely normal, whereas you could get a lot of funny looks if it appears you are trying to cover up your hair loss.

It's just a psychological hurdle you have to cross. Once you've done so you'll be fine, and you don't have to go to a hairdressers any more if you don't want to - just get some clippers and do the job yourself every few weeks, saving some money and all that meaningless chat while the job's being done.

We all go balder or bald at some point. It is called entropy and we can't escape it.

It would seem you have issues with self esteem and should seek out some counselling.

It is true that we all lose a percentage of hair as we age. Some more than others and it depends to on the amount of hair loss within the family history.

Can't really do a lot, but you can take supplements such as Saw Palmetto to generally slow down any loss and to help thicken the hair. It's something widely used in native American Indian culture. Just look at their hair too.

Natural hormone levels within the body can also have an effect on the amount of hair lost or not lost.

Iv been wearing a baseball cap for the last 18 months, and i feel like people in my family/friends would be shocked if they saw how thin my hair actually is.None of them have seen me not wearing a cap for so long.
Its very thin at the front. Then in the middle its growing normally. And at the crown,it is beginning to thin (like it was about 5 years ago at the front)
Its almost turned into a huge moment in my life (and not a good huge moment either). Im 36,and i dont feel i have the confidence to just shave my hair off.
Its really getting me down.
Its become an obsession.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Look at that young guy who is the lead singer of The Wanted. I don't know whether he's bald as a coot or simply has cropped hair. I notice no one calls him bald. So perhaps you should take the plunge and try getting your hair cropped like him? If you really hate it, you can always grow it longer again?

Just stay away from propecia whatever you do, if you value your sex life.

Please don't waste the best years of your life being obsessed with something that happens to much younger guys than you.

When I was your age in the 1970's I was almost completly bald, most younger guys had long hair, and I felt like an outcast.

Today has never been a better time to lose your hair, as so many young guys have a number one crop or a shaved head.

I was 59 when I shaved my head and imediately felt 20 years younger, and it got rid of all the grey.

My advice is, if you are going bald, BE BOLD!
