The King Power Strangler has been sacked.
...looking forward to wednesday even though we have an awful record against newcastle... they have won on their last 6 visits to selhurst; 5 league, 1 cup... hopefully lucky number 7 for us... |

Amazingly Nigel Pearson is not going to be charged by the FA.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31359684 So it's OK to prevent a player from taking part in the game? Can managers start tackling anyone near the touchline? |

After last night's wins for Hull and QPR tonight takes on more importance. Despite all the positives since Pardew took over we're still only 4 points off the drop zone. Need a result later. Should be a cracking atmosphere.

tonight's team: Dann doesn't make it but Bolasie is on the bench.
Speroni, Ward, Delaney, Hangeland, Kelly, McArthur, Ledley, Puncheon, Zaha, Chamakh, Sanogo. Subs : Hennessey, Mariappa, Bolasie, Mutch, Campbell, Murray, Gayle. |

half-time: 0-1.
pretty poor first half all round really, looked like there would be nothing to report then the one moment of quality produces their goal. not sure what Delaney was doing though, just jumped in to thin air! |

full-time: 1-1
Campbell with the equaliser. thought that was the least we deserved in the end. by no means a great performance but crucial we didn't lose. a pity we couldn't really push on for the winner. |

So pleased Bolasie is back.
We certainly deserved a point, I thought we were the better team. Just frustrating to concede like that with their first actual chance. |

It was a scrappy game, neither side really looked all that interested in scoring really, and both defences at times were shocking. In the scheme of things, a point was fair and needed, esp after some of the other low table results. If we had lost that, then I could have seen us slip nearer and nearer the drop. With Arsenal next, I'm pretty confident not getting a point. |

I just said in the Newcastle thread, to me it clearly looked like two teams who were more concerned with not losing which I suppose was understandable given the whole build-up of Pardew versus his old boys.
They defended well, and we struggled time and time again to find a way through their back-line. In the end I'm just glad we got the point - it's another point towards safety. A couple of things though: 1) In the 25 minutes he was on the pitch I was once again unimpressed with Sanogo. His first touch is abysmal and his general control and passing leaves a lot to be desired. 2) I didn't think I would say this at the start of the season but I do believe Hangeland and Dann would be our best centre-back pairing now. I panic every time the ball comes anywhere near Delaney of late. |

i would have taken a point before the game so i'm not too disappointed... probably more disappointed with how cautious we were at times...
pape souare has finally got his work permit and can make his debut against liverpool tomorrow... |

Interesting (or useless!) fact about playing Liverpool in the FA Cup. We've met them four times before and on three on those occasions the tie went to a replay after 0-0 draws. The only time that didn't happen was the 1990 semi-final which still took extra-time to separate the teams.

should be an open and attacking match tonight... you'd think that neither side will want a replay...
the beauty of the cup is it doesn't matter if you get tonked so i'm hoping we get stuck in and have a real go at them, we're the underdogs & are expected to get beat so let's go for it & see what happens... |

the line-up:
Speroni, Kelly, Dann, Hangeland, Souare, Bolasie, Ledley, Ward, Gayle, Chamakh, Campbell. Subs : Hennessey, Mariappa, Delaney, Guedioura, Puncheon, Zaha, Murray midfield looks too lightweight to me. Hope I'm wrong but got a feeling we'll be turned over. |

strange half. one of our poorest for a while and yet we are winning 1-0! could even have had a second!
but if we keep playing like this surely it's only a matter of time before they turn it around? we can't keep sitting so deep and off them all the time. |

unquestionably the worst all round performance of Pardew's reign. that 2nd half especially was desperately bad, we didn't look interested in trying to get back in to the game at all. Liverpool hardly had to break a sweat.
I don't mind going out but the manner in which we have gone out is massively disappointing. |

What the hell was that?!
That was like a training match for Liverpool. I would say we were flat but what an understatement that would be. Disinterested would be more apt. Apart from Gayles first half performance and a few good saves from Speroni I have nothing positive to say. In fact it got to a stage in the second half that I found it all mind-numbingly tedious. We looked like we'd rather be out and that is a massive let-down as I really thought this was a great opportunity for us. Thank God it wasn't a league game. |

that was piss poor.... we got the good results against them last season and earlier this season because we got in their faces and had a go at them... today we did anything but and got what we deserved... it was abject. sure, we defended well at times in the 1st half but all we did was sit back and invite them on over & over again.... it was shite. gayle did well in the first 45, hangeland looked strong throughout, and souare made a decent enough debut but you could see that without either jedi or mcarthur our midfield looked weak... gayle is wasted on the wing, bolasie & zaha were anonymous, chamakh seemed determined to get sent off and despite the goal campbell looked lost most of the time... |

What a poor way to limp out the Cup , seemed no urgency they were content to let Liverpool keep the ball & pass it around at will . Looked like the old days get a goal sit back & invite pressure for the rest of the match with the inevitable result . If we play like that against Arsenal we have no chance of getting anything but a thumping .

We usually lose quite comfortably against Arsenal anyway don't we? That's probably the game I least look forward to all season.
![]() I enjoyed the first half last night. Not so much the second. I really hope Liverpool get knocked out in the next round. |

after sleeping on it i've even more disappointed & annoyed today... what a missed opportunity for us... the only team left in the competition i'd fear is arsenal, there's nothing special about united and liverpool this season and i would have fancied us against anyone else that's left... going out with such a pathetic whimper is what angers me the most...
...anyway, arsenal next week, let's at least hope for a positive response even though we probably all know the inevitable result. |

A bigger concern right now is our poor home form this season. Played 14 at home in all competitions so far and only won 3 of them. We really need to rectify that especially with QPR, West Brom, Hull, and Swansea all still to visit Selhurst in the League.
