But in more depressing news, £250,000 for Ambrose?!
![]() Quote:
It is enormously difficult to stop being a fan for a minute and look at things with a business head on. When we bought the club we were praised for saying that we wouldn't gamble and would run it on a break-even basis. Yet last year our wage bill was considerably more than our total income and we ended up with a loss of £4million that was financed out of our pockets. That is a sobering figure that does make you stop thinking totally emotionally like a fan. The way that football clubs tend to be run is that the young talents are sold off cheaply (eg Vic Mo) to stem the losses whereas the senior players are not sold despite the fact that they earn much higher wages. Look at Portsmouth, for example, they have one player who apparently earns more money in a year than our (and their) entire Season ticket income! For the coming season we have given Dougie a budget that will probably result in bigger losses than last season and it's up to him how he uses that budget. He has to be pretty tough and objective and for every player he plans to get in he probably needs to get one out. He has to take opportunities when they arise and sometimes you have to confirm a sale before you tie up a purchase. It's painful sometimes but the long term future of CPFC is what counts. If you don't have money coming in then you can't have money going out. If you don't progress you stagnate. Now I understand all the above and can sympathise but what concerns me is that we are *allegedly* accepting a £250k bid for our star midfielder who isn't even the wrong side of 30 just to get him off our wage list. Why would anyone want to join us if that is the message we are sending out, selling our best players for pittance? Plus, Clyne is on his way, there's still a genuine chance that Zaha may be too. I said in another thread that I am not looking forward to the new season at all and that feeling grows by the day. |

Although the price seems crazy low, Ambrose isn't that irreplaceable. He doesn't actually do anything in most games. Though he obviously often shines in the big games. Quote:

Can't believe this, first scannel, them clynne and now ambrose. You have to ask what's behind this, seems very strange to me.
Reminds me of the bad old days when venables let some real quality go and signed junk. |

losing Ambrose for that pitiful price is a joke, an absolute joke. i cannot understand accepting that kind of deal at all. and i cannot believe the players we are losing.
seems to me our ambition is nothing more than to try and stay up and that's it. but when you look at the teams in the Championship next season that is going to be extremely tough to do. |

And it looks like it's going to be £1.5m for Clyne. Talk about daylight robbery.

Unfortunately we had no chance of keeping Clyne, but thankfully he's already been replaced.
Scannell and Ambrose weren't regular starters and if we are able to bring in McCormack or similar then it works out. |

Our first pre-season game at Bath on Friday evening (20th) is off. We are now scheduled to play at Lewes instead, 7.30pm KO.

So....Have we signed him or not? The player himself has tweeted that we've signed him, Sky Sports are reporting it too but an agent has tweeted the deal isn't done yet.

Confirmation that Lee Hills has joined Stevenage on a 3-year deal.
Link. And that Curtis Fleming has been promoted to first team coach replacing Tony Popovic. Link. As for Nathaniel Clyne, it's now official that he has penned a 4-year deal with Southampton. Neither club has confirmed the price, though, but a fee was agreed meaning it didn't go to tribunal and reports in local press put the figure at around £2.2-£2.5m with a reported 20% sell-on clause. |

A young team beat Dulwich 3-0 tonight.
More importantly, Dougie played ten minutes! Disapointed to miss that.

Didn't know this thread existed, hello all
![]() Went to Aldershot yesterday, is hard to analyse pre-season games because of the substitutions and flow of the games but was impressed by Joel Ward and Jose Baxter. The goal from O'keefe was a class volley from a corner and thought he also had a pretty decent game. Zaha came on in the last 20 minutes and really looked a level ahead of everyone else on the pitch, tore a fair few players apart and took his goal nicely. Murray and Easter both fluffed the chances they were given but it's hard to criticise too much as it is pre-season after all. A few more signings are definitely needed before the start of the season. I'd guess Baxter will be signed if yesterday was anything to go by but will have to wait and see I guess. Just over 2 weeks til Exeter now... |

Welcome to the thread Mr Jazzman (love the name!
)A Palace XI will be playing at Cray Wanderers tonight. Elsewhere it's not looking particularly great on the transfer front if this report is to be believed... Link. |

Hopefully this is just Freedman playing us down, similar to when he said we weren't going to sign Murray..
If we lose Zaha then I'll start to panic |

Yes, I hope so. My only concern is the loan-player angle.
A 1-0 win for a young Palace XI last night at Cray Wanderers. Kwesi Appiah got the winner. I think the next scheduled game is at Swindon on the 8th. |
