5-1 defeat.

desperately poor all round. that was a team performance that had zero interest in progressing.

Well that was so disappointing I'm watching a kids film. Bad stream and bad game.

However we need to concentrate on the league yeah????? Yes. Please.

I like how strong the team was and wish we could be more fierce going forward and hopefully keep it up on Saturday.

Well, thankfully I was out last night and only managed to see the final 20 minutes of the first half on a friend's laptop which was more than enough.

Only plus - it wasn't a league game.

Note to self* stop drinking copious amounts of booze every time we concede, then posting on here.

Sattrega maybe just watching last 20 minutes would have been better.

Wednesday was bad. This must be one of our toughest runs of games since promotion - West Ham and Leicester are flying, then Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool in a row.

We haven't beat Utd in the league since I was a little kid. A win tomorrow would make up for Wednesday for sure...

just in the pub before the game... think i need a pint in preparation as our record against united is almost as abysmal as our record against arsenal... so i'm fully expecting another defeat today but i hope we at least give it a decent go unlike the mess on wednesday night...

today's team for what it's worth:

Hennessey; Kelly, Dann, Delaney (c), Ward; McArthur, Cabaye; Zaha, Puncheon, Bolasie; Gayle.

Subs: Speroni, Hangerland, Jedinak, Ledley, Lee, Sako, Bamford.

0-0 half time.

started off well but that soon tailed off. our passing and movement has become sloppy.

0-0 full time.

a good point but we did enough in that 2nd half to win it. we just can't seem to score from open play of late.

first draw in 24 league games!!

Would have taken a point before the game what with our dismal record against United but I came out the ground frustrated that we didn't finish them off in the second half and take the three points.

I don't recall Hennessey having anything to do apart from pluck a few balls out of the air and prevent Rooney in the one-on-one. As a unit we were defensively sound today. Going forward we still lack that cutting edge. Gayle worked hard but his positional play at times was questionable. Will Wickham make a difference there? I don't know to be honest, I hope so.

Bolasie was poor in the first half, much better in the second. Zaha did alright but was probably trying too hard at times. Cabaye and McArthur were fantastic again. Puncheon did really well tracking back but going forward he still looks a bit off colour.

Other than that it was good to stop the recent rot. On to Anfield!

even if Wickham does make the difference we still need strengthening in that position in January. if he gets injured again we're back to relying on Gayle, Bamford & Campbell once more.

Don't forget Chamakh. But, yeah, I understand what you're saying.

Gayle was actually terrific in the air today and as a general target man but his finishing was poor and his positional play a let down at times, a few occasions where he should have read the attacks better but was far too slow in realising what was happening.

I thought we looked the most likely to win it in the second half, although the longer it went on I couldn't help feeling like a scruffy, late Man Utd winner was a definite.

Disappointing we didn't make one of those chances count in the end. Good game though.

I'm looking forward to seeing Bolasie's early shot back again.

damn... we should have won that.... can't help but think if we had a top striker playing we would have done...

hopefully that's the end of the bad run & that gives the morale a boost...

...got to say that's the most average, unentertaining united side i think i've ever seen at selhurst...

Nice to get a point. Also created some chances, that Cabaye one was so close.

Not sure what punch had been told because whenever he got the ball, then lost it, he kept throwing his arms up as if the second part of the plan wasn't working. Thought it was unfair they didn't get a yellow for any challenges on Cabaye as it was the same ankle they were fouling him on.

Haven't heard the post match interview yet so looking forward to that and the goal attempts.

First 20 mins was really good, last 20/30 mins was, everything in between bit bland and man u's style of football really isn't attractive at all actually quite disappointed by their performance.

He seems to have been off form for a bit now, or at least he's not been reaching the same levels we're used to seeing him at. He defended well yesterday but going forward his game was lacking.

That's what I mean. Instinctively and reaction wise he's the same player, but he's lost that like you said going forward, just not sure if that's because he's more on the wing/middle then straight middle. Something isn't right I just can't put my finger on it.

looks like Souare will be back for tomorrow's match at Anfield.

might still be too early for Wickham or Chamakh.

Brighton still haven't lost in the Championship this season. 16 games now!

That is bloody good news, he's been souarly missed :-P (someone had to do it)

I think you're right, we NEED a striker in January regardless because well we need one, having good ones injured isn't helping. Gayle does love Liverpool so hopefully tomorrow won't be too bad.

The way I see it is that it's more than a case of needing a striker, what we need is someone capable of playing the lone striker role effectively whilst banging a few goals in. Unfortunately Gayle, Bamford nor Campbell fit that role. Chamakh, although quality, has never been a prolific goalscorer, and we haven't seen enough of Wickham yet in that role to pass judgement, but even if he does prove himself we still need a back-up. That has to be top priority in January.

As for tomorrow, Liverpool currently buzzing. Klopp has had an obvious positive affect on them so it's going to be very tough for us. I'd take a point right now.

so no recognised striker starting. at least Wickham is back on the bench.

Looking at the line-up just amplifies how much we need to get the striker situation sorted out in January.
