This is more like a last day of the season game than opening day. *yawns* |

FT 0-1 defeat.
Usual inept performance at home - check no creativity in midfield - check nothing to offer up front - check Zaha no end product - check players unable to make simple passes - check giving away cheap free-kicks over and over again - check Nothing learned from the second half of last season - check this is going to be a very long, very hard season ahead for us. |

Awful game, awful start, and painfully predictable. Yes, certain players were missing but we never looked like troubling them. It was seriously dire at times.
These next two weeks will be huge for us in the transfer market. Unless we get the right signings in we are going to be in for one long struggle this season. |

Here we go again , a dismal home defeat , caring on the dreadful form of last season to this . Another 0 . had 14 of them last season |

Really poor game. Nothing changed from last season - West Brom are still a horrible team and we still have no ideas at all in attack.
We created almost nothing all game and even if we had, Wickham offered no threat upfront anyway. Speaking of which, when you have Puncheon, Townsend and Jedinak on the pitch, why the **** was Wickham taking that one free-kick?! |

Crystal Palace's ongoing search for a new striker has been "very frustrating", says boss Alan Pardew. why does it always take us longer than any one else to get these things sorted and done?
The Eagles have been heavily linked with Liverpool striker Christian Benteke. "We know we need strikers to come into the club and we're working hard on that. We can't get one over the line," he tells BBC Sport. "Steve Parish (Palace chairman) and myself are still pushing the door and hopefully the door will open. "We've got to have a cutting edge and score some goals. We're very much aware of that and we'll address it." |

tonight i'm sitting here wondering why the hell did i renew my season ticket? ...that was garbage again today and it's been that story since the turn of the year...
i'm beginning to think that it can't just be the personnel or the tactics etc... that instead the problem is rooted much deeper cos something is clearly wrong. |

Confirmed that Johnny Williams will be out for 10 weeks after the injury he picked up in pre-season. I genuinely don't recall a more unfortunate player for Palace when it comes to picking up injuries. Quote:

Well Bolasie's officially gone. Crazy money for someone as inconsistent as him, but he was one of the most fun players to watch when on form.
I'll miss him tearing Liverpool apart all those times.

It's a weird one - part of me is sad to see him go because of those times he could produce something outrageous and brilliant, and part of me isn't overly bothered because he was so erratic and inconsistent and his goal-scoring record so pitiful.
I wish him all the best, though, just not against us. Got to hope we use that money wisely now in these next couple of weeks and don't end up panic buying. |

so a £23M + £7M add-ons bid for Benteke is turned down. I really don't get what Parish is playing at here? Do we want him or not? All this faffing about and trying to scrimp and save a few pennies is doing my head in.
If we want him, just go get him. |

Looks like another one's going Jedinak , picture of him at Villa Park today . Seems a strange way of adding depth to the squad by letting players go with no incoming to replace them . And the clock ticks another day off August ,so I'm expecting some panic buys on the last day.
At least some good news Lloris is out for 4 weeks , always plays well against us |

And I completely agree about the panic buys which sums us up perfectly. We may be a Premier League club in name but behind the scenes we are anything but. Our transfer policies, our coaching, our pathetic scouting system, the state of the ground, even some of the training facilities are all far from being Premier League standard. But, hey, we've just spent a bucket load putting state-of-the-art advertisement hoardings around the pitch - great to see the hierarchy getting their priorities right. |

I didn't think I would be but the more I think about it the more gutted I am that we've let Jedi go. Quote:
To Everyone who has been my family the last 5 years at SE25. To say it has been an emotional roller coaster is a bit of an understatement. I will look back on my time at Crystal Palace with very fond memories. I'd like to thank all of my team mates both past and present for allowing us to share in some great moments for this football club. To all the staff and management who I have worked under for 5 years, thank you for enabling my team mates and I in getting this football club where it currently resides which Is the Premier League. Lastly for those who sang their hearts out week in week out both at Selhurst Park and on away days, you guys and girls have been the heartbeat of this football club well before my time and of course long after, I don't think I have the words to really express my gratitude and admiration for each and everyone of you. You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue. Yours sincerely Mile Jedinak.
Top bloke, and will be greatly missed.

BBC are reporting that we have finally agreed a deal with Liverpool for Benteke.
The clubs have agreed a fee of £27m plus add-ons that could see the deal rise to above £30m. He is now travelling to London to have a medical and finalise personal terms. EDIT: Sky now reporting it too. Add-ons of £5m. |

about time!
He better not fail the medical now! Rumours about that we have also agreed a deal with Chelsea to bring Loic Remy in, maybe on loan. |

Finally! Benteke, Wickham and Remy would be very decent. Quote:

There are also rumours that it will be Peter Crouch not Remy.
