I agree with you about Syco. X-Factor is no longer a talent show but a not so cleverly disguised product placement programme being used to advertise Syco's acts. Last year was when I finally gave up on it and although I still watch, it's only after SCD and Merlin. If Syco really wants to claim back Saturday night telly then he's going to have to persuade viewers that X-Factor is a legitimate talent contest once again.
I don't think Alesha is as big a coup as Cowell wants everyone to believe. Most people who watch SCD will be glad to see the back of her. When she first joined SCD I really wanted to like her and brought into the spin that she was going to be the judge who could "empathise" with contestants. However, she never really did that and when she spat her dummy out over Craig still being in the competition I gave up on trying to fathom out what her actual role was supposed to be! I wish her all the best and if she is getting paid £350k well good luck to her. I just hope she hasn't burnt all her bridges with the Beeb because we know how ruthless Cowell can be with people who don't cut the mustard.

Without doubt my favourite series. I actually voted that year and couldn't believe it when Diversity beat the juggernaut that was SuBo. Simon seems to forget that although people are interested in the judges, the public want to see talented performers get a shot at the big-time. So although in the short-term Alesha might be seen as coup, in the long-term people will judge the show on the talent it discovers and if the acts are as weak as last year then it wont matter who's sitting on the panel.
