Kindle and Wi Fi

Getting a Kindle, the small one not the 3g one.
Does it have to be set up using Wi Fi?,and if so is it easy to do.?
Can I set it up at a Wi Fi hot spot?

I found it dead easy; the set up showed the available networks, I selected mine and input the network password.

Somehow (IP, maybe?) Amazon immediately linked the Kindle to my account, and my name appeared on the Kindle. I thought I had to input the device serial number, but Amazon didn't request it.

I've no idea how the linking would work at a WiFi hotspot, though.

I've not tried it, but I assume it would show you the hotspot and if open, allow you to connect without inputting a key (the same way as phones work).

I set my KK up at home and my K4 in McDonald's. You put your Amazon user/pass in and that's how it links to your account isn't it? Also I think someone did say that it says on the Amazon website how to set up your Kindle if you don't (in 2012 I might add) have WiFi.

If you buy your Kindle from the Amazon website using your own personal Amazon account then the Kindle will come setup already with your account details. Any books you have bought will also be available to download straight away.

Bought 2 before Christmas and both came ready to use out of the box.

Be warned however, mine (3 / 3G) wouldn't connect to my Wifi despite seeing the Network until I changed the channel from 13 to something below 11! There didn't seem to be too much info on the web about this limitation

Does anyone happen to know :

1. Buying e-books from Amazon, is it mandatory to use the 'one-click' system?

2. If it is, do you have to set something up specially, or just clck the button? I've used Amazon for years, but never used one-click except for a few free e-books.

Just if someone happens to know; otherwise it won't be a big problem for me to go through the help screens.

1. Ta

2. Maybe I should have restricted the sentence to one question.

On re-resading my last post, I think it came out looking a bit rude and ungrateful, while it was intended to be a bit humourous (really missed there).

I should have said that I assume you mean I don't have to set one-click up specially.

Interesting! I think they only use wifi channels 1 to 11 in the USA, so maybe the kindle can't cope with higher channels?

Slightly off-topic, but I too have used Amazon for years and always use One-click. It seems pointless to me to go through the extra steps of adding it to the basket and then checking out.

(Mind you, I usually have to edit the delivery method afterwards to change to free delivery where available!)

If I'm buying more than one item, then there can be more than 30 minutes (the time within which 'one click'' items are combined into a single order ) between then....it takes a long time for me to make my mind up.

I often add stuff to my basket during the week leading upto payday, then check out on pay day itself. I've also accidentally brought stuff before by clicking the wrong button (intending to hit Add to Wishlist) hence not wanting one click!

Mine wasn't linked, I simply need to link it to my Amazon account - which it asked after trying to get me to connect to a WiFi network.
