Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, Spice Girls - Not necessarily my picks but they would give the ceremony a bigger profile.

Knowing us though it will probably be - Beverly Knight, Heather Small & James Blunt

I can tell the future, and Leona Lewis will be performing Run. Unfortunately.

I hope Heather Small is there.

Well, I feel the likes of Paul McCartney, Queen, Annie Lennox, Elton John and Sting are inevitable. Possibly the Spice Girls?

Seems probable that Adele, Leona Lewis and Take That would make appearances. Perhaps Florence and the Machine too.

I'd imagine that it'll be exclusively British considering we have so many big acts, but should they branch out I could see Kylie being involved and perhaps Gaga fronting Queen.

I think it would be good to represent more (sub)genre's though. Young urban acts like Tinie Tempah, or even dance acts like Calvin Harris that perhaps needn't have a slot to perform on their own but could provide the soundtrack to high energy performances.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. I'm assuming the ceremony will be more of a prolonged entertaining and spectacular performance with music and dance, than the more historical/narrative approach Beijing took. But, then again, we can hype up our inventions and contributions to culture at large too.

My prediction: Adele will sing Hometown Glory (it's an affectionate ode to her to her beloved London so fits perfectly) and it will then obviously go #1 in every country in the developed World with the exception of Japan, lol. Take That, Macca, Coldplay could also be in the running.

I'm sure it will be Adele too. Hoping for Muse and Will Young. I wouldn't be surprised if Leona takes part, and also some golden oldies like Elton John and Paul McCartney.

1. Adele
2. Coldplay
3. Leona Lewis
4. Emeli Sande
5. Florence And The Machine

A timeline of the biggest globally recognised British acts would be amazing. Acts like:
The Beatles (Paul and Ringo..)
The Rolling Stones
Queen (With someone interesting fronting)
Rod Stewart
Eurythmics (?)
George Michael
Duran Duran
The Spice Girls (unfortunately, two girls are refusing to even discuss the possibility...Simon Fuller desperately wants it to happen as it would be amazing promo for the musical which is opening next year too... I would personally love to see it happen but at this moment in time it's not likely at all.)
Coldplay
Susan Boyle
Adele

Regardless of whether you like her or not, surely it has to be Adele; biggest thing everywhere atm and she's from London, so makes sense!

Adele's going to have to get over her stage fright and dislike for large crowds then.

The opening ceremony usually has less music than the closing ceremony.

Over the two ceremonies I reckon we will see Coldplay, Muse, Take That, Leona Lewis, Adele, Paul McCartney, Queen (possibly with Adam Lambert) and Elton John.

These are all very possible. Do people get $$$$$ to do the Olympics or is it just for basically your country's pride?

Dizzee Rascal. I can't stand his music, but he is a local lad, being from Bow, which is only about a mile away from the Olympic Stadium.

By way of a contrast, how about another East Ender, who was one of Britain's most popular singers the last time London hosted the games, back in 1948? I'm talking about Vera Lynn. Of course, whether a woman in her nineties would want to perform or is still capable of doing so is another matter.

The Spice Girls rumour has been going around for ages and to be honest I'll be a bit disappointed if they don't.

I'll be surprised if the Spice Girls do it. Victoria Beckham seems very happy in her fashion bubble & Mel C's doing her own thing. I reckon they're the two causing the most problems re: reforming.
