Adele would be the perfect choice, but she wont perform at the olympics because she doesn't do massive crowds

i think they'll pick Leona

Since Underworld are apparently doing the music I say just let them perform. I'd love to see everyone's reaction to 'Moaner'.

I would like to see a 'super-group' come together and perform. Comprising of:

Adele
Leona
Brian May
Paul McCartney

plus a few other greats.

I think Muse could do it, arguably one of the biggest rock bands of our generation, sold Wembley Stadium out 4 times, sold out huge stadiums + arenas out around the world and quite frankly, their music is one of the best things around at the moment. You don't see MOST of the artists suggested here selling out stadiums around the world.

I hope it's not going to be some boring X Factor diva like Leona or Alex.
Adele singing Hometown Glory would be nice as the song is about London so it's suitable, I definitely think Adele will be singing.
Personally I'd like someone like Muse as they are good with large audiences they could sing 'Knights Of Cydonia' that would be epic
I think Elbow might perform too as their hit 'A Day like this' is always used in inspirational events when televised.
I would like Paul McCartney , David Bowie and Elton John to perform.

In this The Telegraph's article you can clearly see how much of effort these guys put in to produce the show of all time.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/oly...#disqus_thread

"The Government recently increased the budgets for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games by an extra £41m."

"The opening ceremony will go out to four billion people. It will be the largest piece of television in history. The budget is across four ceremonies and the judgment was made, which I support, that this is a unique opportunity that has been independently assessed at being worth up to £5 billion in advertising."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So anybody who is going to perform there will be major star... at least for a few days.

I'd say she is more interesting than the X factor divas for sure.
Also she would only perform one song 'Hometown Glory' surely one song wouldn't bore you?

oh i love that song, but i hope it isnt someone like you. other than that i'm fine, its just i've heard that song FAR too much. I wouldnt mind alexandra performing, she has the chops and new material to boot. Not sure about leona, her material always seems to let her down. Maybe if all 3 performed? its meant to be the best of british...and by the time the olympics come...it could be excellent exposure for all 3.

she wouldn't sing that, its totally inappropriate. i agree with bbc, adele is far from boring. i also tend to agree with you that the x factor ladies would also represent the uk rather well. they are also both very gifted vocalists.

If Adele performed it would surely have to be Hometown Glory? It's her song to the London she loves, it's perfect for the occasion. And if she sang it even half as good as she does here it would still blow people away.

Probably controversial but I would hate to see either Cliff or McCartney there. IMO both have been living off past glories for years much like British Football and the 1966 world cup

I actually think for what she has done for her genre and promoting British music abroad that Katherine Jenkins should be asked to do something. No doubt I will be vilified by fellow "opera buffs" and pop fans alike - but I genuinely believe she deserves it.

Little Mix(probably a shoe in!)
Adele
Leona
Coldplay
Take That
Cheryl Cole
Girls Aloud
Cher Lloyd
Emeli Sande
Spice Girls

Girls Aloud could well perform,it'd probaby be the start of their comeback and gain them more fans around the world. Cheryl would probably also be performing a few singles from her upcoming album.

when is the olympics btw?

Also,Lady Gaga could be a possibility aswell, she'd bring the place down! Rihanna and Katy Perry could also make an appearance. Christina Perri could potenitally perform and I think Ellie Goulding is a definite

Mel hasn't been approached personally but Simon Fuller has been.
Unfortunately it's a dead end because two of them will not budge.
It's strained. Five women, some with incredibly inflated egos. Four of them are certainly deluded in terms of their current status in the industry.
What should be a fairly simple discussion between the six of them is actually like a tense political negotiation.
I do not envy Simon Fuller in that respect - there are petty envies, egos, erratic personalities and group politics - one word out of place and certain members simply block all contact for weeks on end.

It's maddening.

I would love to see it happen though.

Imagine big productions of Viva Forever and the 2007/8 Reprise Version of Spice Up Your Life. It could genuinely be amazing.”

Which 2 girls? Victoria and ...?

Cliff, Macca, Elton and Bowie are all getting on a bit, but are probably still capable of performing well. Dame Vera, who is getting on a bit more, probably isn't.

As far as younger, more contemporary artists are concerned, Adele seems like the obvious choice as she has worldwide and cross-generational appeal.

Many of the other artists mentioned in this thread would only appeal to young people and/or British people, and make most viewers over 35 and/or most foreign viewers switch the TV off in their droves.

Seriously? I can't stand them. That "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" song really annoys me.
