I think something like the Olympics should actively use acts that are maybe only big in Britain. The performances is about showing off our own popular culture....it shouldn't be about wheeling out a bunch of famous has-beens (no offense) like Macca and Bowie who may be globally famous, but haven't be relevant in decades.

Someone like Dizzee Rascal is a perfect example of who should perform. He's a uniquely British act that represents our current popular culture, and sort of has folk hero status in the UK, but not a massive international profile. But I think even foreign audiences would enjoy him performing one of his catchy, big hits like "Bonkers".

By all, means, we should use some of our more established acts with international profiles. But it'll get very boring and middle of the road if you just wheel out the famous Brits that Americans might be familar with. If you go deeper into the British talent pool than just the big interntional acts, you can put on a far more interesting and diverse show.

Bowie not relevant for decades?

What decade would that be?

I already said "no offense" to avoid these type of responses. Yes Bowie's a musical legend blahblahblah, but he's not exactly current. That's all I'm saying.
