I think it's wonderful that you are all learning to dance.
Just a word of warning - if you plan to learn real Argentine tango you will find the techniques in direct conflict with ballroom technique and approach.
You have to 'unlearn' ballroom to do Argentine tango properly.
The hold is quite different, so is the use of the feet and the way you 'walk' in AT. There are no set sequences in AT and the lead has to think up new choreography every time he dances. The follower does not know what steps he will decide on. It can take a while to learn how to lead and how to follow. You do not, I repeat not learn sequences in AT.
If on the other hand your teacher is a ballroom person who 'has done a bit of AT' he/she will probably teach you their 'ballroom' version of what they think is Argentine tango, which will bear no relation whatsoever to the real thing.
As long as you don't try and dance it in Buenos Aires or Spain or in Europe for that matter, you might just get way with it. If you go to a London milonga no one will know what you're doing or what you are leading.
P.S. going to Buenos Aires once and doing some classes does not make you an AT expert. Sorry, but it's true.
Be careful how you choose your teachers. Good luck!
