I took beginner ballet a few years ago but had to stop, but I'm thinking of restarting. But ballroom and AT also sound good.

I think it's wonderful that you are all learning to dance.

Just a word of warning - if you plan to learn real Argentine tango you will find the techniques in direct conflict with ballroom technique and approach.

You have to 'unlearn' ballroom to do Argentine tango properly.

The hold is quite different, so is the use of the feet and the way you 'walk' in AT. There are no set sequences in AT and the lead has to think up new choreography every time he dances. The follower does not know what steps he will decide on. It can take a while to learn how to lead and how to follow. You do not, I repeat not learn sequences in AT.

If on the other hand your teacher is a ballroom person who 'has done a bit of AT' he/she will probably teach you their 'ballroom' version of what they think is Argentine tango, which will bear no relation whatsoever to the real thing.

As long as you don't try and dance it in Buenos Aires or Spain or in Europe for that matter, you might just get way with it. If you go to a London milonga no one will know what you're doing or what you are leading.

P.S. going to Buenos Aires once and doing some classes does not make you an AT expert. Sorry, but it's true.

Be careful how you choose your teachers. Good luck!

I started ballroom and latin dance classes four years ago after the 2007 series of SCD inspired me. I am a male and was going alone so was slightly nervous on going into the class that first time - the teachers were great though and I got to dance with them a few times.

I switched classes to one that held a two hour social practice after the main lesson so you had three hours of dancing! I loved the social practice because they played music for all the dances. My proudest moment was Samba-ing around the room which got me a little applause from those watching.

I haven't danced in two years because of illness but would love to get back into it soon. You will have a fantastic time!

I would love to try Argentine Tango as well, either that or Modern/ Contemporary. However am getting on a bit so do not fancy all of that throwing myself on the floor and jumping up again, so AT is more realistic.

I have no ballroom technique at all, so 'unlearning' it won't be a problem.

Perfect It's addictive. The music is glorious. Age is irrelevant. It's all about the music and the sheer pleasure of dancing. Enjoy!

Have been doing ballroom, Latin and sequence fir a few years. Not particully good but it is something I do for me. Also do street dance and zumba have done rock and roll, salsa and tap in the last few years but not now. Decided after 15 years of being taxi to my dancing daughter and dancing son to have some lessons as have always wanted to dance. Would love to do ballet but no adult ballet class here

I did the same thing two years ago, I joined my local dance school. I was a bit scared at first, now I love my dancing lessons.... and yes I have lost weight as well.

I can Waltz, QS and Tango. I can dance the Cha, Cha, Cha, Samba, Rumba, Rock Jive, Ballroom Jive and now learning how to fox trot!

You will love it!

I did it when I was a kid nearly 40 years ago. I was crap even with Len Goodman as a teacher. The best thing about then Saturday mornings was stomping around to March of the Mods. I was born with two left feet and I think I'll die with two left feet. My and Mr Co-ordination are never destined to be friends.

I started dance lessons 7 years ago. I hd done some Ice Dancing many years ago but that did not help in any way.
I had a few false starts with finding the right teacher but I did find him around 6 years ago.

I do both ballroom and latin and I love it. I do it for me. I can only manage once a week but that day is mine.
I was ill when I first started and although I asked I was told the foxtrot was too hard for me to learn at that time. However my newly found teacher raised his eyebrows when I asked to do the foxtrot but given the state of my health at the time he agreed. It was lovely and I managed to do it heel turns and everything. I still love it. It is such a musical dance, like floating on air.

7 years on and no regrets even though my husband doesnt dance and will not even try, I have my dance day which keeps me going and my health has improved more than 100%

I would recommend it to everyone
