I've been thinking about this quite some time towards the back end of last year.

Although the climax of Yusef's storyline was gripping, I'm sure I remember a couple of Episodes leading up to xmas being to what I call extremely depressing.

I know re this forum there are some very staunch EE fans that vehemently back EE no matter what and I've also witness a fair few totally belittling others (which quite frankly I find upsetting and disgusting) despite the fact that like any other TV prog or soap, it's not immuned from being criticised.

Going slightly off topic, the other thing I can't fathom is the way people get really heavy-hearted over a fictional character (yes that is what they are in their existence).

I think above all, like any soap, it's had it's ups and downs, but I think the way it's going, there is far too much quantity than quality.

I didn't particularly like for example the way the Masoods/Yusef storyline dragged on and on not to mention the disappointment of Ben turning out to be the stalker.

Some of those characters are past their sell-by-date - Max Branning. Bianca, Carol being a few of them, and even for a soap, there's rarely any humour or genuine camaraderie between people.

9 times out of 10, people are at each other's throats and are plainly horrible and spiteful towards one another.

I know at the end of the day, you don't want to miss out, but even though it was nice to see David Wicks back, I don't think I'll be watching that many episodes or get too emotionally involved in this particularly in the evenings as I for one want more out of life than being stuck in front of a box every Friday of the week - just a thought in peace.

Yes, and I fully intend to now that imo quite sadistic, extremely unpleasant, and torturously drawn out Yusef stuff is over. It's ruined the soap for me since the summer, but I wanted to see the end (back) of it.

I moved abroad for six years for work and never really missed it. I think soaps are one of things that if you don't keep up with it you never miss (at least for me). That was in 1998, and I never picked it up again 'properly' after coming back in 2004. The thing that got me back into it was all the fuss about Bradley's demise as when I'd occasionally caught it I really liked the character, and of course there was the 'live' aspect.

I tell a lie, perhaps. Lauren and Whitney are two of the most gorgeous creatures I've ever seen in my life, so I may have to keep watching just for them

I gave up watching EastEnders last year - and I'd watched since the first episode.

I'd started to find the storylines and characters repellant to the point of feeling sort of dirty for watching it, and though I pop in here to see what's happening to characters I did like (like Pat ) I've not really missed it at all.

Good comment and I agree - Lauren's presence has got me hanging on a little

I'm off travelling this year and potentially will be away for 12 months, ive watched it addictively for about 16 years so a whole year without EE will be strange but no doubt as soon as im back I will become addicted to it again, it wont ever go away.
