Alesha has started 2012 with an almighty bang - quitting Strictly Come Dancing and joining Simon Cowell's Britains Got Talent - only a day after she released her new single...

Can we expect Alesha to hook up with SYCO and if so, will she finally get the solo success she deserves?

I'm afraid not. She'll be even more of a laughing stock in regards to her music career, mainly down to all this jumping ship of leaving/joining talent shows. It's taking away from her musical credibility, as that's all she'd be known for.

I doubt it. The interest has just never been there. She won't have it better than she had at Strictly. She could have had that job for years yet. Likely hood is Simon will drop her once he gets interested in someone else... as Cheryl Cole will tell you.

No. Her moment as a proper pop star has passed. I think she could still score the occassional minor top 30 "hit" with the right song and promotion, and shift a few thousand copies of an album. But I can't see her ever being a major force as a pop star.

But she's essentially the female Peter Andre now....TV personality first, musician second. I don't think people really buy her as an artist any longer.

Having been dropped from 2 x record labels since going solo and failing to maintain any chart success - surely she can afford to take risks.

Does she have any musical credibilty to lose?

It could. I think she might get a better deal and it could re-start her music career.

You are right there. I mean in terms of people taking her seriously, like another poster said she is a TV personality first. If she concerntrated more on that she could make an opportunity for herself with music.

I think she's always had pretty decent songs... maybe SCD was the wrong audience to help promote her material?

I don't think there's enough interest in her for her to have a successful music career out with her being a tv personality.

Looking back... it's pretty amazing she's made it so far!

Saying that, I've always loved Alesha Dixon and wish her all the best!

She would have to come up with stuff approx 1,000,0000% better than Drummer Boy to have even a sniff of chart success.

I think she's a beautiful singer... Breathe Slow & To Love Again are amazing tracks.

Drummer Boy is poor, like alot of her uptempo stuff.

I'm liking her new single... it's got a Jessie J sound to it and simple lyrics with some meaning... I hope it does well.

Alesha Dixon is absolutely useless! Doubt it will be her year, hopefully her year to deck off tv altogether

It's a risk this move. You have to look at people who got on the Simon Cowell bus and look where it ended them. Fair enough Cheryl Cole made millions, but she was humiliated at the same time. Even the likes of Leona and Alexandra don't see to hang out with Cowell anymore. The only thing keep them in the game is the fact they can sing.

I really can't see how BGT will revive her career. Yeah she may perform live on the show, but what happens when BGT is finished and 10m+ people are not tuning in and seeing her face on TV. Also she is 33 years old. No way is that old, but is the music business it is hard to comeback when you have had two major flops.

The only reason she is being hired is because Cowell want's to get one over on the BBC & SCD. There is no doubt that he is upset or threatened by them beating the XFactor last year, so he wants to disrupt that by pinching the female judge, which in turn creates publicity for the show etc...blah blah blah. That said Simon Cowell is a bit of a dumb a** as he doesnt seem to know that Alesha wasn't that popular as a juge anyway (even though i personally felt she was pretty decent)

Do you honestly think Simon is hiring her because she is so talented? Had XFACTOR had beaten SCD last year, he would never have gone near her. Sadly Alesha will turn out to be one of his guinea pigs imo like Cole and Kelly Brook learnt. I also think she may be the best available for the job, as BGT requires a lot of time...time that top artists/actors etc don't have.

TBH, she is a bit of an idiot. She had seen how switching from rival jobs can mess up your career but she is still going along with it. She should make a phone call to Christine Bleakley who left the BBC for a massive pay rise (understandably to some)...which ended in tears for her.
