At New Years Eve a song was played and I am trying to find what it was.

I remember it has an introduction of a keyboard being played quite fast only the keyboard at the start (sounds like a slot machine at a fairground!) followed by the guitar then drums! I think it is from the 80's and is rock.

I can't remember the lyrics, but it may have started with something like "up here" or "right here in the morning"

I thought it might have been a Van Halen song, but it's not.

I know this is very vague, but any suggestions much appreciated!

It does sound like 'Jump' by Van Halen even though you've excluded them.

It turned out to be Baba O'Riley (Teenage Wasteland) by The Who!

That's good!

That's a lot older (1971) than the Van Halen thing, much better band as well and it's used as the theme to CSI:New York in a modified form. You should get Who's Next because it also has Won't Get Fooled Again, probably nowadays known as the theme to CSI:Miami!
