Another song from Lana's upcoming album has surfaced. Again, it's pretty different to the others already out there. Got to love her diversity.

http://karmalover.tumblr.com/post/14...makes-us-girls

Remember how we used to party up all night
Sneaking out and looking for a taste of real life
Drinking in the small town firelight
(Pabst Blue Ribbon on ice)

Sweet sixteen and we had arrived
Walking down the street as they whistle, "Hi, hi!"
Stealin' police cars with the senior guys
Teachers said we'd never make it out alive

There she was my new best friend
High heels in her hands, swayin' in the wind
While she starts to cry, mascara runnin' down her little Bambi eyes:
"Lana, how I hate those guys."

This is what makes us girls
We don't look for heaven and we put our love first
Don't you know we'd die for it? It's a curse
Don't cry about it, don't cry about it
This is what makes us girls
We don't stick together 'cause we put our love first
Don't cry about him, don't cry about him
It's all gonna happen

And that's where the beginning of the end begun
Everybody knew that we had too much fun
We were skippin' school and drinkin' on the job
(With the boss)

Sweet sixteen and we had arrived
Baby's table dancin' at the local dive
Cheerin our names in the pink spotlight
Drinkin' cherry schnapps in the velvet night

Know we used to go break in
to the hotel pool, glittering we'd swim
Runnin' from the cops in our black bikini tops
screaming, "Get us while we're hot"
"We don't give a whaaat!"

This is what makes us girls
We don't look for heaven and we put our love first
Don't you know we'd die for it? It's a curse
Don't cry about it, don't cry about it
This is what makes us girls
We don't stick together 'cause we put our love first
Don't cry about him, don't cry about him
It's all gonna happen

The prettiest crowd that you had ever seen
Ribbons in our hair and our eyes gleamed mean
A freshmen generation of degenerate beauty queens
And you know something?

They were the only friends I ever had
We got into trouble and when stuff got bad
I got sent away, I was waving on the train platform
Crying 'cause I know I'm never comin' back.

This is what makes us girls
We don't look for heaven and we put our love first
Don't you know we'd die for it? It's a curse
Don't cry about it, don't cry about it
This is what makes us girls
Darlin' little queens do you know what you're worth?
I'll tell you everyday till you get it, girl
It's all gonna happen

This is what makes us girls now, baby.
This is why we rule the world now, baby.
This is what makes us girls now, baby.
Why we rule the world now, baby, oh.

OMG I adore it. I think this might be my fave one yet. If Lana isn't 2012's biggest music star there is something seriously wrong. Everything about her is just so ace. The songs feel so real too and have proper meaning behind them. I've never felt like this about an artist before but she has totally opened my eyes.

It's my favorite out of the songs she's released so far. It's actually pretty great, I like it a lot, even though the lyrics are not that great imo.I may check out her album after all

It's alright. Will listen to some of her other stuff.

Britney Spears is one of her influences, apparently. Good stuff

I really wanted to like Lana Del Rey's music, but it just is not working for me, I love to discover something new, and after all the praise that Lana has received, I was hoping I would love her songs, but I am just not getting it - my loss I know. I wish Lana all the best though in her music career.

Am liking it more than Off to the Races, but not as much as Video Games or Born To Die. Good to hear a bit of variety though.

I'm hopping from one Lana-obsessed song to the next! This is right up there with everything else I have heard from her so far. I can see this being a single too. Think it would be a good choice for an uptempo number. Off To The Races is great too but it may be just a little too quirky for the charts.

I think so definitely, I love how this is her debut material but there is so so much material to work with for Born To Die...it is really epic!

I think why i have this instant love for her and respect is because she is so very old skool, she lives her music and it is hypnotic and i love that!

I get these spiritual, Stevie Nicks, Nancy Sinatra, Disney Princess vibes about her...and that is the best i can describe it...absurd magic!

And ithink Off To The Races may work for some radio airplay....but This Is What Makes Us girls could really work! It is very much kinda sonically driven.

I like that it's a little different from what we've heard so far but like Off To The Races it's just missing something for me.

Can't get into this at all after loving Video Games & Born To Die. Really is missing something and the lyrics are nowhere near as good as the above mentioned.

To me, it really sounds like a crap demo

Is that a demo or the final track? Same with this one; http://karmalover.tumblr.com/post/14...ational-anthem

I think they will probably get a few tweaks before the album release.

I'm still not seeing what all the fuss over her is about

Her other songs are okay, good lyrics and interesting videos but the music & her voice sound a bit weak to me. And honestly? This one sounds like something a "teen sensation" working for Disney would release.

Thanks for putting a little bit of 'realism' into this thread.I assume this song is again part of Lizzy Grant's fantazy world - she's a millionaires daughter FFS.I find it hard that she could identify with the lyrics in this song.

Trying to detach myself from the uneasy feeling I have about who Elizabeth Grant is in reality & how she likes to represent herself in her imagined world this is still a below par song with over girly (although slightly strange) sentiment.I'm sure when this very lo-fi sounding song is (over) produced on the album version it will sound very different though.

Reminds me of a cross between Ke$ha and the random whispers are like LFO

She's got a great, distinctive voice and seems less trashy than Ke$ha so should be better received.

On the contrary, I actually think this song is quite clever. On first listen you might mistake it for being some "female empowerment" anthem, with the rebellious teen verses and especially with the ad libs at the end about "girls ruling the world" but the song is anything but. In fact, it is quite mocking in an ironic way with Lana's deliberate sugary sweet vocal delivery lamenting the lack of sisterhood solidarity where girls "put love first" and become consumed by it. Sure it is fairly simple but I like the sentiment
I don't really see a Disney act doing a song like this.
