Humax Foxsat HDR - How do I know if 5.1
waughd

Hi, is there a way that I can tell if a broadcast on the HD channels will be 5.1 or normal Dolby Digital, either using the guide or the information button. I tried both and whilst the information button says DD, it does not say if 5.1 or not.

I checked some stuff I've recently recorded and although I can tell by the sound quality that some films are 5.1 and some aren't, the Humax does not seem to tell me that information.

Only an amplifier with a DD decoder will be able to tell you the nos of embedded channels in the audio stream.

No. You can't tell in advance.

If the guide says ITV London then you know for sure it is not 5.1.

If it says ITV1-HD (London or Granada) it isn't either.
