I was in my local shopping centre today and went into the shop "The Works" which is a discount book store.

http://www.theworks.co.uk/

Anyway, they had about half a dozen of the binatone e-readers, model 2281 on sale brand new for £25 quid.

found a picture of one from an old ad on gumtree

obviously for £25 quid it's not going to be anywhere near kindle-worthy, but it might be a cheap and cheerful alternative if you're not too fussed ?

This e-reader seems to be let down by the device software as it won't read epub. A pity because it does have an e ink display and would otherwise be a bargain.

doesn't do DRM stuff either apparently but then I guess there are plenty of DRM-free books out there.

re not supporting epub I guess you could use this program calibre which everyone recommends to convert the filetype.

Personally I wouldn't be that bothered by the DRM issue as I don't regard getting an eReader as an opportunity to shop at amazon or wherever, more a convenient way of reading eBooks I already have on my hard drive.

yeah calibre tends to handle most things actually - i think it comes on the installation CD.

i suppose in a perfect world i could get one, sell it on ebay for a bit of a profit and put that profit towards getting another one to actually keep, potentially getting a brand new e-reader for £10-£15 quid
