as title really, i have the iphone 32g 4s which i upgraded from iphone 4 and i am lucky to get a day out of the battery
this is with little use, i take the phone off charge first thing in the morning, check facebook, twitter, words with friends and a bit of whats app, thats about the blunt of it, i do these once in the morning, once at lunch and when i get in as at my new job i have no time to really look at my phone

where as before i would be on my iphone 4 most of the day

is this just mine or has the battery life all of a sudden decreased

i understand its the a5 chip but really didnt think the battery would be this bad

I've got the Iphone4 - I think this might also apply to the 4s?
I complained about my battery life until someone told me that all the apps that I clicked on then came out of were still running, therefore eating up the battery life.

You may do this, but I never knew!
Double click the round button at the bottom of the screen, - it will show all the apps that are still running. Press and hold down each app icon until the little - (minus) sign appears - then delete them. It will not delete the apps, just close them.

They're not still running. It's the apps you've used recently. It just remembers where you were in them so if you jump back to that app from that menu it'll carry on where you left off, giving the impression it was running in the background all the time. They don't use battery.

Oh right...I stand corrected lol!
Maybe it's just me, but I thought I did notice my phone's battery life lasted longer. Maybe it is wise to ask apple then John

I got the I-phone 4. My battery lasts a full day when I don't listen to music.

I go days when I listen to the radio apps, and my own music as I also use it as an Ipod.

So the battery will last half a day. If I'm lucky,

I recommend going into restrictions within settings and switching off Ping. When I switched it off a few months ago I noticed a real improvement in my battery life (this was about 2 OSs ago mind you).

Another thing is turn off location services for apps which you don't actually need it for.

I have a 4S and am constantly using it for Twitter, Facebook, messaging, emailing, browsing, a few apps and recently reading off Kindle app. But I routinely recharge every night and generally a day is all I get out of it. But that was the same when I had my 3GS, and my wife is the same on her 4.

I get about 2 days out of my 4s between charges and this is using alot for messaging, push email, browsing, a few phone calls and about 2 hrs a day playing music in the car

That was before I bought a Gear 4 docking station, as now the iPhone is connected to that each night for radio before going to sleep and my alarm in the mornings, so that battery is fully charged now each night.

The battery issues on the 4S are well documented. If you check out the Apple forums there are hundreds of pages devoted to the subject – and just about as many possible solutions. None of which appear to have had much impact in my case. Most suggestions revolve around turning just about all functions off – which whilst they may increase battery life also turns the phone into nothing more than an ipod – it is after all supposed to be a smart phone not a Mars bar! There is a suggestion that many apps are not fully IOS 5 compatible and do not shut down as they should – and I have to admit that I would like to have an app killer similar to the Android system so that you can make sure that an app is actually turned off. If anybody knows of one for iphone I would be very interested.

In my case I can get about a day out of it using it for a few calls, fetching email at 1 hour intervals and with Blue tooth turned on. I have tried restoring the phone and upgrading to the latest build of IOS 5.01 (9A406) all to no avail. I used to get much more than this before the IOS 5 upgrade and more than I do now on the 5.01 version. IOS 5.1 is in beta – but early reports suggest that there are no improvements in battery life in the build so far.

Things like streaming music don’t seem to make much difference to the battery drain. What I have noticed is that the phone can drain about 2% an hour just sat on the desk doing nothing. The usage indicator suggests that the phone is being used much more heavily than it is yet I can see nothing actually running in the background.

All in all its very confusing and disappointing. Just to make things worse Apple as usual are totally silent on the matter.

I have to charge my iPhone 4 every 2 days. I use it for about 2 hours of music and 2 hours of gaming as well as text, phone calls and web browsing per day.

If I do alot of gaming such as 5 hours in a day then I need to charge it that night.

I have noticed my iPad lasts a great deal longer and manages 2 days even if I do 5 hours of gaming per day, I would say the better is about twice as long.

the iPad has a much larger battery, so obviously you can't use that as a comparison.

A day if used a lot. Two days if not used very much. Anecdotal of course. All depends on what you do with it, and if you disable things you're not using.

About a day and a half for mine. That is with some short calls, may be 1 30-45min call, and a lot of Internet over 3G and wifi. With emailed checked every 30mins on 2 accounts, Facebook push notifications(which I can't turn off).
If I do some gaming then just a day.
Fingers crossed and touch wood, I have never had any trouble with the battery life on my 4S.

I found that too, that the notifications still came through after turning off, so have deleted the app totally now and just view Facebook on the iPad through the browser

I'm aware of that, I was simply pointing it out.

How long is a piece of string? Phones are essentially in standby all the time you are just reading the screen.

Playing a decent game with graphics you are very unlikely to get any more than 3 hours.
That's not bad considering that the GPU/CPU is reasonably capable

I generally get a full day out of my iphone 4S, but have needed to tweak a few settings and make sure I walk out of the house at 100% battery level. Something weird happens overnight when I am sleeping; it decides to start discharge! Linked below is details on what I do to help prolong and maintain the 4S battery, as well as a graph to show this unusual battery drain overnight!

I have a 32gb 4S which I got in November to replace my 32gb 3GS. I've not noticed any difference in battery use from my 3GS and I use it about the same amount - i.e. most of the day. I use it for Twitter, messages and FB quite a few times during the day (its on my desk in work), Kindle reading for an hour at lunchtime then in the evening will use extensively for same as above but maybe a bit of game play, web surfing and watching tv.

I always charge it at night and sometimes give it a little boost during the day or early evening just to keep me going.

I know quite a few iPhone users (sorry, don't have any Android friends - just a coincidence) and I'm not aware of any who get more than a day's worth of battery power.

I assumed it was just accepted that you charged it daily.

By the way, about 18 months ago after an iOS upgrade a friend of mine and me both noticed significant battery drop (he had a 4 and I had my 3GS). He read that turning "Ping" off in Restrictions would help and after I did that I noticed the battery fall was back to normal levels. Might be worth a go.
