...and a ratings weapon ? It's a bit of a mystery, unless it's because she is young and attractive and female, compared to the other judges who are middle-aged and male and not particularly attractive/handsome...?

Are you suggesting there's a lack of beefcake on the Strictly panel??

Maybe because a lot of people really like her?

And a lot of people don't. Dixon was fine when she was dancing with the lovely Matt Cutler - it was when she was appointed as a judge - she thought she was an authority when she had danced each dance to performance level once. A real authority, studied her subject for three months and became a gobby "expert" criticising the professional's choreography. Britain's Got Talent are welcome to her and her 10 paddle.

Alesha will on paper be great for a general talent show like BGT as no other judge has both her dance and singing background.

So that means she is in great demand like the OP said.

That said, i don't take that show seriously as Amanda Holden is a judge FFS and even that guy from Baywatch.

That's why Simon was willing to cough up as he hopes Alesha's background/experience will beef up their weak judging panel.

Is Alesha that a star that she will draw viewers? At the end of the day you don't need to know anything to be a BGT judge. Me or you could do it. All you have to do is buzz when the ''acts'' are useless, and say ''yes you are through'' when they are good. I don't get why people think you need some sort of ''skill'' to be a judge on BGT.
I mean what does Amanda Holden say most of the time.

SCD and even the declining XFactor require far more talent as you need to know ballroom (Strictly) as well as mentor acts and choose songs etc...(XFACTOR)

I really think people are overplaying Alesha's worth - Cowell has cocked a snook at the SCD team but Alesha is expendable just like Cole and Minogue were.

Cowell will use her then cast her aside - I don't see any real longevity for Dixon, she could have gone down the musical theatre route to make the most of her talents but chose to be a "celebrity" with a limited shelf life.

She has taken the fast buck to obscurity

I have grown used to Alesha as a judge and she has been polished up but am not completely convinced she would draw me to watch Britains got Talent (allegedly ........or at least a dancing dog) however I was watching QVC and there was Matthew cutler zumba ing for all he is worth. It seemed a bit unfair that the person with the talent was doing that and his protégée is going onto megabucks.

Simple. This is BGT we're talking about, not Mastermind.

Well, no. I mean, there's Len and his pickled walnuts for a start.

Chances are Alesha was on a 3 year contract with the BBC & BGT offered a better deal to entice her away at this point. No conspiracy or stabbing the Beeb in the back, just simple economics.

Hope her Agent has done a good deal for her with BGT and best of luck.

Amanda Holden went to Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She has appeared in the musicals: The Sound of Music, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Shrek. She's done formal training and done professional theatre work.

There was a thread on Matthew Cutler when he appeared on QVC - promoting Zumba is only part of what he does - one of the posters explained he still has many strings to his bows and is still much in demand as a teacher and in the dance world. It is generally the celebrities who do better out of winning than the pros - Alesha is no exception to that. The pros don't do too badly out of winning either! I don't think there's any shame in being involved in promoting Zumba - it's a famous fitness brand afterall and I believe both Lilia and Ian are also involved with it too.

Alesha has already generated huge amounts of publicity for Cowell and BGT and I would imagine a fair number of non-regular viewers may tune in at least to the first shows either to see how well she does or in the hope she falls flat on her face! She is regularly featured in the gossip/fashion magazines which won't harm, and possibilities of in-fighting between female judges will keep the show being talked about. I think she is there for publicity rather than due to her own talents (which is not to say she doesn't have any) but I really wish Alesha well though and hope it works out for her.

Topaz: thanks for your post - always great to be reminded that Matthew is doing so well and having a very successful career doing what he loves doing.

Hi Studio Girl - tangoqueen gave more detailed info of what Matt is up to these days - here's the thread for anyone interested.

What an utterly ridiculous remark. Matthew Cutler was a pro dancer in a show where the celebs are the main attraction. Let's face it, how many of you could name Darcey Bussell's trainer? The professional dancers have become famous due to their role in SCD only.

Get over yourself and see the wood for the trees. Pfffttt!

Alesha was very popular when she won, the fickle public only turned against her when she was chosen to replace Arlene, a decision that was hardly her fault. Apparently some of you lot thought she ought to do the decent thing and turn down a well-paid job. I pretty much guarantee that none of the miserable sods on here who cried foul at her appointment would have turned down the job.

I often despair that the average DS member loves applying lofty character traits to celebs that they themselves don't have. Celebs are still just people, made of flesh and bone like us mere mortals, which means that they bleed, they feel pain, they experience humiliation, they care about being liked.

Can you imagine starting a new job (in whatever field) and getting dog's abuse because your new colleagues absolutely loved their former colleague, and thus refuse to accept you as their replacement, out of a sense of loyalty to the deposed employee?

No one is knocking her, moving to BGT, some just question if it is the right move,to leave the BBC and go and work with Simon Cowell, especially if goes on to dump her.

Also how was she very popular though? She became popular because she won SCD and that's it.

If she is so popular, how-come her albums(bar the one she released AFTER WHEN SHE WON SCD) have done so poorly?

Yes, I can. If I was really popuar as a plumber and then turned up as an electrician without any qualifications, then I would expect criticism.

Dahling, you exaggerate. Or perhaps you weren't reading the Mirror at the time. Alesha stated publicly during her first series as judge that she was uneasy about the public criticism of her, so "gobby" and "authority" obviously have another meaning for you.
Never mind, it's all water under the bridge now. Miss Dixon's safe now, and we have to look for another victim for "jellus hatahs". Possibly we should now fix on some hapless female playing in the band, since we never see their faces. Or maybe a continuity girl.
