Shall we open a book on what ITV's soon to be commisioned drama series featuring midwifes will be called?

No average for that match but according to The BBC's Kevin Bakhurst on Twitter it peaked at 2.85m, which I suspect is close to a record audience for a 1.30 kick off on Sky.

Maybe this is the Dancing on Ice twist? The contestants will have to deliver a baby as part of their routine?

I don't think Louie is a turn off - the new judging panel is actually much better - especially Katarina Witt.
DOI's problem is it's too long and too many ad breaks. Sounds familiar - ITV replicate their X Factor mistakes. I watched it for the 1st time last night - the whole thing comes across as a bit flat compared to SCD. I am assuming there's no live band playing the musical numbers? And Bleakley was just that - pretty, but bleak. She comes across as "i can't skate but I am prepared to try and get excited about this because I need to get my career back on track". |

Surprising figure for Call the Midwife - though from the comments I get the feeling nobody here actually watches it. Has to be the first hit pre-watershed Sunday night drama though to launch in quite some time - possibly since Wild at Heart and Lark Rise to Candleford.
And the decision not to split Dancing in Ice is looking more baffling with every weekend. The Talent Show Story is actually a decent show for nostalgia/TV fans but not only is it hurting Saturday night but it's probably hurting itself by being in completely the wrong slot. I agree too Jonathan Ross would probably fair better in the Sunday 10pm slot - just seems a more natural time for a chat show IMO. Watched both those at the weekend - Talent Show is fine - but it is on the totally wrong night. JR has lost the edge if you compare to his BBC shows - if ITV have any sense they should shift him NOW to another night in a later slot. |

I watched last night for Miranda and out of curiosity, but it's certainly not my thing and I won't be bothering again - the return of TG sorts that one out anyway.
I see the Beeb's press blurb today claims the 9.8m for ep1 makes it "BBC One’s highest launch episode of a new drama on record". That can't possibly be right. Of all time? Ever? Can it? ![]() "It's based on all the like-for-like data we can access since the overhaul of the BARB panel in 2002" http://www.barb.co.uk/news/item/id/53 |

if ITV have any sense
![]() On the DoI twist - ITV don't half overreact to ratings do they? The one good thing is that they arn't getting the press X Factor had with ratings, so the audience might not notice the stench of desperation as Louise gets nasty and pretends to be Gardner, and the rest of the panel throw some punches. Also a 'twist' doesn't fit the show - it is just basic Sunday night viewing, if the twist leads to any unfairness or over-complicating the format it'll annoy viewers. If it makes it fun (celebs dance together is a good idea) then it'll work. Shall wait and see what it is. I might laugh at ITV though, no promises. They'll have a very good night tonight I suspect. |

Okay an update to this from Sam Hodges.
"It's based on all the like-for-like data we can access since the overhaul of the BARB panel in 2002" http://www.barb.co.uk/news/item/id/53 ![]() It's a poor do really when even the networks themselves have to treat 2002 as Year Zero in ratings terms. 1981 is understandable given that's when an impartial more scientific form of measurement came in for the first time. (Although BARB goes back to 1998 IIRC, so not sure whey they have chosen 2002 as the cut off). Anyway, it's plainly nonsense. There will have been many BBC dramas that debuted with audiences >10m. |

The fact that there was going to be a twist was announced in last night's show so it isn't a reaction to last night's ratings, but don't let that get in the way of your constant ITV bashing in this thread.

Also I wasn't talking about last night's ratings, but the series since the launch. But don't let that get in the way of your incorrect assumptions. DoI isn't really the type of shows 'for twists' is all. And I don't ITV bach I even stated that it'll work really well if it adds fun to the proceedings! (On another note, I honestly have no idea how people can be fanboys of channels when its all about individual content which we all know varies rather strongly throughout the year) |

I'm not sure what's more interesting, Call the Midwife hitting huge levels or Dancing on Ice heading off the ice!
Unfortunately for ITV, the BBC One opposition only had 6.0m so you can't blame the poor 21:30 rating on that.Top 20 on it's way.... |

I predict during the Olympics there will be half a dozen posts mentioning the high rating for the 100m and then 3 pages debating whether Coronation Street is in crisis because it rated low against it!

You've been very quiet today.
I work for a living, I never post weekdays before teatime, by which point the ratings have generally been discussed in great detail and the discussion has moved on. |
