That said the idea that you can tell a programs rating just from this thread, is some of mind blowing, given the thread is about official ratings, its not meant to create them itself.

Still we have seen the press use the amount of kettles being put on, to predict ratings in the past, so we cant do any worse than that.

yes it is worth a look, they almost blow up the whole of Holby, im not exactly sure what stopped them, they sure as hell blow a massive hole in the budget. Meanwhile David Wicks has returned to Holby, still visibly grieving Pat.

Its one of those "just when you think things cant get even worse, they do" type of episodes.

Yeah, I can't see it doing particularly well. It's the sort of offering which would do pretty well for a channel like BBC2 but it's not mainstream enough for a BBC1 or ITV1 Saturday night primetime programme. They had a similar clip show in 2010, 'Thirty Years of An Audience With' which had ratings of about 3m, I don't imagine this will do much better. Casualty usually experiences its post-Autumn bounce this time of the year with ratings of around 6m so that ought to be the comfortable slot winner. I caught a bit of The Bank Job near the end and looked like it was a pretty big episode tonight so that might've done a bit better than the 1.1/1.2m numbers it's been posting this week. I think Fawlty Towers, if it's true as someone said it hasn't been shown on the channel for several years, will be the star performer out of BBC2/C4/C5.

Watching it now and quite enjoying it,It's a 2 parter and continues next week

Whatever happens with The Bank Job I doubt it's done well enough to earn a second series. Bit of a flop really much like Famous & Fearless which was supposed to be their big show in the same week last year. It's been a good week for C4 on the whole (especially Mon and Wed) but this turkey dragged them down.

Agreed Fawlty Towers will probably be the star performer out of BBC2/C4/C5 in Total People.

There have been rumours The Bank Job has already been recommissioned - but nothing was said at the end of tonight's show so I'd guess it's still up in the air. A lower than desired base rating without a doubt but it did hold it's audience throughout the week - and frankly not much gets more than 1.2m in the 10pm slot for C4 at the moment. I'd give it a second chance myself as there is a good show in there somewhere - just needs alot of it's flaws ironed out. (C4 though will probably either axe it or commission another six series to air this year!)

Talking of 10pm ratings looks like Shameless is dropping the E4 First Look episodes this year, though I think it'll still struggle to break 2m an episode this year.

Why does it matter if C5 are so close to Australian transmission? Does H&A have a lot of days off between now and it's UK Summer Break that would force C5 to take an early break if it ran 1 week behind Australia?

Don't know how late in the day they changed this but looks like ITV switched the FA Cup Highlights and Celebrity Juice tonight, putting the FA Cup at 10.45pm rather than 11.45pm.

Just catching up on the programme about talent shows, and it was going on about how Pop Idol swept the nation, and its ratings were great. I thought that too, but then I went on Wikipedia and the ratings don't seem to reflect that?

The return of Casualty tonight has been heavily trailed on BBC1 since at least New Year's Eve.

I watched the first 20 mins or so. Some of the best comedy I've seen in ages. Though I think it was unintentional.

Pale shadow of the Casualty I grew up with in the late 80s/early 90s. Still, it was funnier than The Royal Bodyguard...

Sounds like the show was a full hour of "Cowell high-fiving", with a bit of "old" TV thrown in for a bit of context before Cowell reinvented the whole concept.

As always - it's about peak advertising rates. Hence why X Factor always finishes over a week before Christmas. The BBC run Strictly a week later because from a scheduling perspective, that's more convenient.


I still think it could disappear quietly. If Cowell has the opportunity to try something else instead, I suspect he'll ditch Red or Black. Because it's not going to sell anywhere else. Depends on the new shows as well - and whether or not he's going to make them first in the UK or the US.

On the plus side, ITV Studios have a stake in it, Ant & Dec are on it and ITV didn't find anything else in the way of entertainment hits in 2011


It was massive, though. Obviously it hit key demos too which helped with tabloid buzz. But until 2008/09, nobody really thought we'd have a time when the soaps were repeatedly kept of the weekly #1 spot by X Factor or Strictly. So being "the best of the rest" was a big deal. Cowell's importance at ITV was already significant in 2006 when he just had X Factor (and it was losing to Strictly then).

It's another sign of how remarkable the past few years have been for these shows.

Casualty was good tonight. With the mid-season launch at the new filming site in Cardiff looking great in HD i thought. The new set might take some getting used to for regular viewers though. Some decent stunts in tonight's 80 minute episode too. Based on previous year's January overnight ratings it should be at or above 6 million tonight and maybe the short transmission break followed by intensive trailer advertising will help boost it a bit further.

Judging from the Original British Drama trailer it looks like Birdsong and Upstair Downstairs will be airing after Sherlock finishes. Wonder what happening with Empire as the book is already out and Wallander? My guess would be February 5-March 11th for UD, Empire March 18-April 15 and Wallander April 22-May 6th.

I agree it's underperformed, but I would assume the demos were good?? I personally think it has legs if it had some tweaking, but who knows?? The final tonight was Amazing!!

I've got episode 1 on Sky+ and keep meaning to watch it but based purely on the ratings, I think there's a chance of The Bank Job returning. It's not a genre Channel 4 find particularly easy. It has held up well across the week. I'd imagine they'll consider audience reaction as well (some positive comments on here, not sure if that's representative - there was some criticism of George Lamb as welll, however). The fact that it's an Endemol show probably plays in its favour as well.

My views might change when I watch it, but based on the numbers, I'd say it might be worth another shot.

The Mail is reporting that Cheryl Cole is back in the Syco fold and is working with Simon on a new talent scouting show (unlike BGT apparently) which'll air in the autumn. It probably means (if true) that she's returning to The X Factor panel...but if it's a new show (if true) it could spell the end of Red or Black?

Bit "meh", but quite close to my prediction of 5.3m.

A bit below where I expected for The Magicians considering the previous series rated in the mid 5m's, but nothing alarming or concerning. Casualty back with it's usual early 6m figure, which proves there is still life in it yet for many years to come.

Good start for Take Me Out in the middle of no mans land as far as ITV's schedule was concerned, after a TV Burp repeat and before a programme that didn't set the ratings alight. Poor start for The Talent Show Story (2.6m), not particularly surprising. It wasn't a bad programme as I said repeatedly, it was just the wrong slot for it. Jonathan Ross (3.0m) didn't do too badly considering the lead-in, but I think ITV may end up moving everything so The Talent Show Story ends up in the 10pm hour, with Ross in the 9pm hour and Take Me Out at 8pm.

The Bank Job rose a good 500k it seems, while Celebrity Big Brother had it's usual Saturday drop.

2.6m for The Talent Show Story seems very low. And it's got another 4 episodes left to trudge along at that level.
