The BBC have screwed up there entire early winter Drama schedule all for one episode of Panorama.
Quote:
That nobody bothered to watch anyway. Still, The Guardian will be happy. I didn't think Public Enemies was ever likely to debut with more than 4.5m to 5m anyway, so 4.1m isn't catastrophic. But it has helped ITV out massively, for sure.
Contrary to what you might think Robbie, the BBC isn't just there to chase ratings. It is a public service broadcaster. That episode of panorama is the type of thing it's there to do. I know that's a controversial thing to say in the ratings thread... |

Good night for C4.
Really not expecting much for CBB tonight, hardly anyone is even aware it's still around these days let alone launching a new series tonight. I really don't expect more than 3m. |

Overstatement of the week.
Over 2 million watched. Myself included. Contrary to what you might think Robbie, the BBC isn't just there to chase ratings. It is a public service broadcaster. That episode of panorama is the type of thing it's there to do. I know that's a controversial thing to say in the ratings thread... |

They spent our money on a new 3 part drama, they shouldn't have been so keen to drop it in order to fit in what seemed to be an hour of waffle which so far as I could see said nothing about the trial that had just concluded and justice finally being done, but was instead a prepared documentary about the victim's mother and going over very old ground about the Met's supposed institutional racism, a pet subject for leftists at the BBC and The Guardian. No wonder twice as many got their Lawrence trial reports from the News rather than this documentary which could have been shown any day post 10.35pm.
Hustle has simply been shifted to next Friday. No need for panic or hyperbole. |

Really? It's been advertised so well this year. I see it everywhere I go. On every bus I see, every train station I go to. Ads on ITV while Emmerdale was on which got almost 8m viewers, also during Mamma Mia which got 5m. Also a moment ago, 4 celebrities rumoured of going in were trending, and so was CBB.

I only saw one ad too, on New Years day I think? It gave the impression that the public decides who goes into the house, Is this the case? Alarmingly it didn't say what date it started.

It's the whole reason the BBC exists. If the BBC is just going to churn out general entertainment with the aim of high ratings there is no reason for it to exist in its current publicly funded form. The BBC absolutely has to do documentaries on major public issues and they must be shown in prime-time where they will get the biggest possible audience. |

![]() The public do not decide the housemates. In the advert "we" refers to Big Brother. |

for what its worth im sure the BBC did not think it ideal they would have to drop Public Enemies, at such short notice, even for a PSB channel im sure it was a tough decision, its not like they dropped an episode of Motorway Cops or a New Tricks repeat.
Obviously the BBC has a duty to ensure its expensive drama get as gooda rating as possible, but on balance with the situation, they did make the right decision. The final series of Hustle can wait a week, not like its going to pick up any new viewers now. |

The rules on advertising on other channels are pretty strict. I don't think they were allowed to be more specific at that time, although yesterday's trails on ITV1 did at least carry the date.

They would have known it may happen anyway - the verdict was coming, the documentary had been ready to air for a while as they'd been filming right up until the trial started... it can't have taken them that much by surprise. I'm not sure what kind of ratings people were anticipating for Public Enemies on Tuesday night for it to be this big a deal. |

The Panorama Special was absolutely right but there was so much confusion at BBC1 scheduling about the time it was to be shown (2000, then 2100, then 2000 then back to 2100 again) that I suspect many potential viewers were just confused and gave up.I believe there was also an ITV Special at 2235 but I haven't met anyone who saw it. The Panorama would probably have done better at 2000 in any case and putting back Holby/River City by a week would have caused minimal disruption.

England will play Norway in Oslo at the Ullevaal Stadion on Saturday 26 May, before hosting Belgium on Saturday 2 June before Euros 22 seconds ago http://www.thefa.com/England/News/20...ncement-050112 If the latter is in the evening, it may well be that followed by the BGT Final straight after like last year if I remember correctly. |

From the schedule changes it did appear they were deliberating between the two, but I think they settled at the right decision. Moving Hustle back a week is probably less disruptive than trying to find an extra slot to get Holby back in sync as well. |

Interesting that Pointless and The Chase are neck and neck as it seemed that Pointless was way out ahead during the last run.
Personally I watch The Chase while it is on and Pointless when it isn't, therefore getting a good mix of both across the year, maybe many others are now doing the same as they know Pointless is on all year round. |

I think the content was more suited to a 9pm slot - may also have been a bit much to follow Public Enemies straight after as well, considering the subject matter. Again it probably would have done better at 8pm but that's not really the point.

According to someone on Five Live yesterday Holby was supposed to be bumped but Panorama wasn't ready to air by 8pm, so they had to change the plans at the (very) last minute.

Also I know it was for PSB reasons but Public Enemies could have tanked completely launching to a sub 3m Panorama lead-in. |

Ah I see, thanks for the info, feel dumb now.
What are you predicing tonight Dancc? Are you nervous? Exciting night for Five. ![]() Whilst the marketing has been as good as it could have been, and the lineup is reportedly very good according to various sources (including Digital Spy), it's struggled for press coverage yet again with more interest in who WON'T be Dancing on Ice this weekend, so it's going to be a bit of an uphill battle for it. But then when is that not the case for a show on C5? Launch night is an attractive proposition for the casual audience as it's always interesting to see who's going in, and the competition is average at best, so with that in mind I'm predicting 4m (inc. +1), but I think it could do just about anything from 3m-5m. William Hill are taking bets on whether or not the peak will be above or below 4.5m. Odds of 5/6 are being offered for both scenarios, which doesn't really tell us much. Also it doesn't state whether they are talking about 5 or 15 minute peaks: http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en...g-Figures.html |
