Indeed. Beyond Corrie and Emmerdale, there are quite a lot of 3m rating shows. One thing I've also noticed with ITV's weekly top 30 on BARB is that the range is always higher than BBC1's for example ITV might have a range of 9.5m to 2.7m from highest to lowest while the BBC may have a range of 9m to around 4.1m.

Yes BBC one is allot more consistent across the board. Take the latest set off ratings for instance 11-5 million for BBC and 9-3 for ITV.

I think BBC One will have a good year this year.

Netflix is here! And at just £5.99 a month for unlimited streaming of a wide range of TV shows and movies, I'd be pretty worried if I was Sky.

Dunno if Netflix can succeed here especially as Lovefilm already has the DVD rental market covered plus its backed by Amazon.

Wasn't mentioned but I'm sure I've read before that Ant and Dec are pretty much responsible for the presenters at audition format we're used too. Originally they were supposed to be filmed documentary style like Popstars but Ant and Dec filmed a few bits themselves at some early auditions and producers liked what they were seeing.

Also how good was that Pop Idol set - much better than the big screen + stairs + shiny floor which seems to be standard now. LOL at the judges desk though in the Will Young clip which isn't big enough for all four so Neil is tucked around the corner.

I think journalists up and down the country should be prepping that "You're Fired!" headline - he was bloody awful IMO, and I'm in no doubt that if Jay Hunt wasn't at C4 he wouldn't have been considered.

Would be interesting to see the audience appreciation (and the demos) for his first show compared to Jimmy Carr hosting it last week.

How is anyone supposed to know when these 'The One...' comedy shows are actually airing

Lenny Henry is on Friday at 8:30, then repeated Sunday at 10:20 and now it seems the Jasper Carrott one was tonight at 8:30 rather than next Friday.

They've obviously just been shoved in any available slot.

Jasper Carrott's show was a bit "meh" (although a damn sight funnier than the rubbish that's on now). The Detectives sketch was a bit pants but I was never a great fan of that when it was part of Canned Carrott (It was a bit better as a stand alone sitcom). I can understand why the BBC stuck it on against Coronation Street. What's The Royal Bodyguard's excuse?

I notice I'm the only person to have posted in The Royal Bodyguard thread since the programme started. Will the last person to leave the room please turn out the light?

I'm not watching it, you know. I just happen to be in the room while another less fussy member of the family watches it. (it's all right, she's not laughing much). It's like a very serious motorway crash. You know you shouldn't look, but you just can't help yourself. I hope when the next edition of the Radio Times Guide To TV Comedy it jumps straight to the top of the "Worst British Sitcoms?" list.

2: TXF's margin of victory over SCD went down from 3.5m in 2010 to 0.04m in 2011. You don't need a personally typed Bruce Forsyth press release to note the significance of that one

3: can't really spin the Corrie win over EE. Shit happens...

Royal Bodyguard must be based on The Detectives as the plots are recycled as is the bosses relationship with the leads.RBG wasnt all that bad tonight and raised a few smiles if not laughs for me, but I loved The Detectives and I think its that Im laughing at really.
Saw some Canned Carrott on satellite the other night and really brought back memories -the send ups of adverts were particularly good. Hate to say it but Jasper was a bit off key tonight though the sketch with his dtr was interesting-the whole thing though felt like watching an over 50's football team -everything two yards off the pace.

I have to say EastEnders was a brilliant programme throughout the 80s and 90s. I just think it's too unrealistic nowadays, and a bit surreal. The characters aren't really relatable or likeable. They're trying to be too young and edgy. They need some older characters in the show.

Excellent for Sherlock last night. To hold up so well from its premiere rating and to dip just 0.6m is much better than I expected. Sherlock is officially the BBC's new biggest show. Maybe a Christmas Day slot beckons?!

DoI performance show was in line with where I expected it to be and the results did OK considering all the factors last night. WaH may have slot its slot (first time ever?!), but 7m+ is still a respectable rating. I think ITV have kept DoI on Sundays as they fear WaH will collaspe without it. The show has proven its got legs over the last few years and scheduled correctly, would perform well in a different slot. Maybe they should have taken a risk this year and split DoI up over Saturday/Sunday.
