EastEnders is Ok, Emmerdale is fine. BBC Two did well, the ITV Flop Zone, well when is ITV going to fix it? its gone on too long for it not to be a bigger problem, commissioning needs to be better.

They were bothered, that's the point. But they thought it was on BBC One HD and didn't realise BBC HD existed (where the 3d transmission) was.

But how did they become aware of the fact that there was a 3D transmission? All of the promotions that I saw or heard stated 3D on the BBC HD channel. Did they not bother to find out, or to listen/read properly? |

Why are ITV commissioning so many bog-standard quizzes, for a start, these are all too complicated and don't appeal to a very wide audience at all, they're just dead dull. It's been a decade since The Weakest Link, quizzes don't all need to be humourless and serious. They need more lively playalong formats like Family Fortunes and Play Your Cards Right, or silly things like Let's Dance. I suppose The Whole Nineteen Yards was a decent stab but they decided not to bother continuing with it. When they had one of those in Sing If You Can they executed it incredibly badly. It either needs to be a spectacle or something daft and lightweight, not these dull affairs. What's the hook of The Exit List?.

Mike, Children in Need (the 19:30 BBC1 airing) actually went up by 0.02m and actually means a change to the end of year chart...
Most Watched Shows of 2011 [Top 20 - Officials] 01 - 13.95m - THE ROYAL WEDDING (29/04/11 - 08:00 TO 13:40) - BBC1/HD/BBC NEWS 02 - 13.46m - THE X FACTOR (11/12/11) - ITV1/HD 03 - 13.39m - STRICTLY COME DANCING (17/12/11) - BBC1/HD/3D 04 - 12.63m - BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT (04/06/11) - ITV1/HD 05 - 12.56m - CORONATION STREET (14/02/11) - ITV1/HD 06 - 12.47m - I'M A CELEBRITY - GET ME OUT OF HERE! (13/11/11) - ITV1/HD 07 - 12.15m - DOWNTON ABBEY (06/11/11) - ITV1/HD 08 - 11.42m - EASTENDERS (03/01/11) - BBC1/HD 09 - 10.77m - DOCTOR WHO (25/12/11) - BBC1/HD 10 - 10.76m - BBC NEWS (29/04/11) - BBC1/HD 11 - 10.67m - NEW YEAR LIVE (31/12/11) - BBC1/HD 12 - 10.49m - DOC MARTIN (17/10/11) - ITV1/HD 13 - 10.26m - CHILDREN IN NEED (18/11/11) - BBC1/HD 14 - 10.26m - COMIC RELIEF (18/03/11) - BBC1/HD 15 - 10.24m - THE APPRENTICE (17/07/11) - BBC1/HD 16 - 10.23m - DANCING ON ICE (09/01/11) - ITV1/HD 17 - 9.87m - NEW TRICKS (15/08/11) - BBC1/HD 18 - 9.73m - FROZEN PLANET (02/11/11) - BBC1/HD 19 - 9.68m - THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST (14/05/11) - BBC1/HD 20 - 9.52m - EMMERDALE (13/01/11) - ITV1/HD Notes: - No duplicates: i.e. no BGT/DOI/XF in there twice. - HD audience included for all programmes airing on HD - BBC1 HD is bundled in automatically with BBC1 - ITV1 +1 excluded - The Royal Wedding is BBC1 and BBC News only. Children in Need being 13th, not 15th as first thought. I just hope The X Factor and Strictly don't have a swing down or up of about 0.04m as that could be slightly controversial.

I would think the value is in the name "Something For The Weekend" & the presenters not the basic format. |

There's been lots of changes to the officials ratings from w/e 6th November until w/e 20th Nov, I've noticed, to pretty much every programme. So people might want to re-check official ratings of programmes during that period onwards. Some changes to your chart include: I'm a Celebrity's launch was adjusted down to 12.47m, Frozen Planet up slightly to 9.73m.
Also Comic Relief was 14th, not equal 13th, as that had 10.261m whilst CIN had 10.264m.

BBC drama commissioning news:
- 'Death in Paradise' has been recommissioned for a second series of 8 episodes. - BBC1 has commissioned a new epic drama series about the War of the Roses, based on the book 'The Cousin's War'. - BBC1 will have 1x30min special 'Room on the Broom' this Christmas, following the success of 'The Gruffalo' etc. - New 3-part crime drama to air over Christmas, 'The Moonstone', about Sergeant Cuff of Scotland Yard. - BBC1 to mark Halloween with three-part drama 'The Secret of Crickley Hall'. - New 6-part contemporary drama series ordered, called 'Truckers', set in a haulage company in the midlands. The Betty Driver Story got almost 4m viewers in a Tuesday 8pm slot - you'd have thought after that rating, they might've done a few more one-off 'The [Corrie character] Story' episodes, but nope - nothing since then.
![]() Oh, wait, never mind, it's against EastEnders on the Tuesday, silly ITV. Quote:

ITV are reading this thread!
![]() Oh, wait, never mind, it's against EastEnders on the Tuesday, silly ITV. This Betty Driver character was in 2,800 episodes and a spin-off, so whilst she might deserve one, I don know if Becky does. Meanwhile if its on at the same time as EE without a Corrie lead in, its doomed to fail, I dont think it should need saying but this would be better with a Corrie lead in. If ITV are reading this thread, they probably don't read it on Wednesdays anymore, however it would be really funny to hear ITV staff mention the Flop Zone. |

you have to wonder where ITV would be now, if it hadnt had gotten really lucky with Downton, ok ITV 4 is becoming a really good niche sports channel, but im not sure what else has been achieved.
Surely all commissions across the board are made up of luck and belief from the commissioner at the channel. I think ITV did very well to commission Downton which has bought much lacking critical acclaim to the channel.I would say the higher rating, higher quantity drama output on ITV1 has definitely been achieved more recently since the cancellation of The Bill. ITV1 certainly has a much higher level of drama output than in years gone by - with more money being committed to drama in 2013. |

To say nothing of the cost of any drama, with that kind of money involved no way its being put down to luck. |

I hope commissioning is not all down to luck, I would help its based on skill of knowing a program, knowing your audience, and knowing what will work for both.
To say nothing of the cost of any drama, with that kind of money involved no way its being put down to luck. Why would you suggest they got lucky with Downton? Would you not say someone used skill at ITV with this commission? |

Fair enough, I didn't mean it to come across as pure luck, but luck is in there somewhere...

On the subject of BBC2's Tuesday night with Bake Off and Edwin Drood, you have to say BBC2 have had a great start to the year in general.

I don't think it's fixable in the short term, so I don't think they are going to bother. Champions League Football is not far away from airing on a Tuesday night on ITV1, and I think they are banking on this being the fix they need. They should really look to capitalise on Wednesday next as this is the weaker soap-free night on BBC1.

I wonder if ITV knew it would be the MASSIVE hit it has become.
Even if you hate the show you've got to admit its done very well. I wonder how Upstairs Downstairs will do for the BBC this year. I reckon 7-8 will be good. |
