It's a better lineup than last year, but spoiled by a few pointless filler HMs like the twins who on first impressions at least appear to be very vacuous and there for only one reason.
If Ruby Wax hadn't pulled out it would have been stellar. As it is, it's only okay. But Michael Madsen is a bit of a coup, and out of the rest there's a good mix of current names that have been in the headlines a lot, so from that point of view good. I think it could be an entertaining series.
Launch was flat though with a strangely quiet crowd and it's making me change my opinion of Brian. I did think he was getting better and growing into the role more but tonight he seemed worse than usual for some reason. His banter with the celebs was excruciating at times, repeating the same things over and over and not getting anything remotely interesting out of them.
At the start of Bit of the Side Emma Willis did a piece coming down the stairs with the crowd and she looked far more natural in the role than Brian has in all the time he's been doing it. Maybe C5 should take the hint!

What - you've heard of both of them?
Awful line up (for both) - absolute proof Britain has run out of celebrities. And to think CBB used to be able to get names like Maggot and Tracey Bingham.

I've said from the beginning they got Brian and Emma the wrong way round - Brian would be better suited to the relaxed format of the spin-off show, and Emma would thrive hosting the main show. She's just a more competent presenter.
I enjoyed the launch but felt they misjudged the task a little bit - it provided a few great moments but they spent so much time on it then the show felt stilted as a result. I think the line-up is as good as you can expect though - some feisty characters. Miles better than Dancing on Ice anyway...

I really dont see Davina returning.
Then again I think Desmond puts alot into Big Brother to make it big, a big pay cheque for the right name, is something he seems to favour.

I think Davina's done with BB now and I don't think she'd ever go back. But this is Brian's third series now and he's not really improved for me. Wonder if he's contracted for another series already? I would drop him, personally. Emma would be the obvious choice and should have got the main gig from the start IMO.

Agreed. I like Brian as a person and no doubt I would vote for him again if he went in a third time but he's not the best presenter. BOTS would suit him more.
I too felt the task segments were a little too long at times. And Bruv didn't seem to have that many great ideas for things Natalie could do that might be funny to see play out. They should have opened it up to viewers to suggest things maybe, make it a bit more interactive.
I'm being picky though. It did serve up a few funny moments and she did steal the show tonight Natalie. I think without the secret task or with a less game celebrity the two hour launch show would have dragged.
Anyway, I'll see you in the morning. I should get the overnights after 9:30am and I'll post them here.

I agree, two hours was too long.
But I do agree, I think it's a better line-up than last series - much potential in this group I think.

I do wonder if she might have been given the main job if she wasn't pregnant, putting some doubt into whether she could commit to the full autumn series and Celeb BB.
Celebrity Mastermind is really pulling in strong figures; as I said before I hope this gives the BBC the confidence to try other programming out in the 7pm slot. The rest of the evening held up relatively well for a Wednesday; Fake Britain benefiting from a TV Burp repeat presumably.
BBC Two had another excellent night which is of little surprise considering the base contained the same programming as Tuesday. Again, like Tuesday, the 10pm programme makes little sense - how would Mock the Week keep the same audience that watched King George and Queen Mary.?
As film filler goes, Mamma Mia didn't perform too badly for ITV1 with TV Burp also rating as well as it did it some of it's autumn slots. Emmerdale's figure looks much healthier than the past couple of days, as does the share which may result in a decent figure for tonight's programming. They'll be pleased to see The Chase gaining ground on Pointless.
One Born Every Minute is the standout rating in the Channel 4 schedule, and boosted The Bank Job. The Fabulous Baker Brothers didn't record a bad figure at 8pm, and How To Cook Like Heston rounded off a stable if unspectacular (outside One Born Every Minute) evening for the channel
Channel 5 will be hoping that last night was a lull before the Big Brother storm with no standout rating there whatsoever; indeed they'll probably be disappointed that they didn't hit 1m across the night though the programming was no doubt strangled by tough competition on BBC Two and Channel 4.

In comparison, Big Brother, I'm A Celebrity... and Strictly Come Dancing are relatively risk free so it's no wonder zelebs would prefer to go on them.

Gave up on Eternal Law after half an hour. Jeez, it was rubbish, and it takes something for me to slag off a new drama, particularly something different. Looks like the second major TV turkey of the past fortnight after TRB. Expect it will be a ratings stinker, as I just can't see who would have stuck with that for a full hour? I could be wrong of course!
Public Enemies continued its grim but engaging course. But a third hour of it tomorrow might be a big ask for many.

As some of you may have seen, a couple of posts offensive to me personally have been removed from the thread by the mods (one poster, a persistent irrittant on this thread, appears to have had his account suspended after cutting and pasting the same post back again). I was taken aback by some responses to my earlier comment, which I can assure was in no way intended to make mileage out of a "BBC ratings obsession" at the expense of a murder victim's parents, or something even worse. For goodness sake, I had already conceded that Public Enemies was never going to be a big hitter. But I don't see why I should be castigated for making a point others have made elsewhere that it seemed a bit OTT for the BBC to clear a slot at extreme short notice to broadcast a Panorama that had clearly been produced some time ago and pretty much 100% covered old ground on the Lawrence tragedy/inquest/investigation/trial, and which didn't in my view (for what it's worth) merit a flagship 9pm slot, covered nothing of the main story re the trial that the 10pm News couldn't cover, and didn't need to go out the same night, same week, same month even. Anyway, the Ratings Thread probably wasn't the right place to make political comment, rightly or wrongly, so I regret that. But I thought the overreaction from one or two people was, well, a bit of an overreaction....

The house only received minor modifications which never happened during CBB in the past as they simply reused the Big Brother layout, wonder if the logo as well as the house will get a makeover for the regular series? Also due to the Olympics, I wonder whether they'll air it in late May/early June and have it done and dusted by the time the Olympics start.

I completely disagree. That link illustrated to me that Emma has no presence as such and was rather poor on that pre recorded link - it wasnt even live. She's ok in the small intimate studio setting of Bots with 30 guests contributing and helping her.
Brian did remarkably well tonight and I have to say i loved his banter with the celebs going in - apart from Michael who would make anyone feel uncomfortable.
Really enjoyed the launch.

Could mean having to clash with Britain's Got Talent which they may also be keen to avoid. Also I wonder if they'll revert back to 13 weeks for the summer series - I hope they don't as 9 weeks was about right, but I suspect they'll want to milk it...

Two Broke Girls was up 26% from Rules of Engagement last year. If CBS open up another hour of comedy, I suspect Two Broke Girls might be called upon to lead an hour.
ESPN topped broadcast for the night with 2 college football games which had 5.5 (17.6m) and 4.7 (13.8m) averages. History had a 2.4 average from 10pm with Pawn Stars (beating ABC/NBC) and a 2.2 at 9pm for American Pickers. WWE Raw had a 1.8 average for USA between 9pm-11pm.
ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars returned with 3.3m viewers and a 1.3 A18-49 rating and ranked as the #1 show of the night on all TV with females 12-34 but down a bit from its summer premiere. The Lying Game followed it with 1.8m (0.6).

Work It premiered to not awful ratings but it probably won't be long before it hits those depths. Body of Proof and Parenthood both struggled at 10pm, the ABC show was especially low. The Biggest Loser also returned in the US on Tuesday, down 30% from last year. Parenthood was dow 26%.
On cable, more college football for ESPN pulled in a 3.4 rating with nearly 10m viewers. Two episodes of Storage Wars on A&E averaged a 2.0 from 10pm, topping original scripted on ABC and NBC. MTV's Teen Mom also topped those networks with a 1.9 rating.
ABC Family's Tuesday line-up came back lower than the Monday duo. Switched At Birth had 2.7m (1.0) while new series Jane By Design had 1.6m (0.6) - even the press folk at ABCF were subdued about the later, describing it simply as "solid".

Work It premiered to not awful ratings but it probably won't be long before it hits those depths. Body of Proof and Parenthood both struggled at 10pm, the ABC show was especially low. The Biggest Loser also returned in the US on Tuesday, down 30% from last year. Parenthood was dow 26%.
On cable, more college football for ESPN pulled in a 3.4 rating with nearly 10m viewers. Two episodes of Storage Wars on A&E averaged a 2.0 from 10pm, topping original scripted on ABC and NBC. MTV's Teen Mom also topped those networks with a 1.9 rating.
ABC Family's Tuesday line-up came back lower than the Monday duo. Switched At Birth had 2.7m (1.0) while new series Jane By Design had 1.6m (0.6) - even the press folk at ABCF were subdued about the later, describing it simply as "solid".

9pm - Modern Family - 14.03m (5.6)
9.30pm - Happy Endings - 7.48m (3.2)

8pm - I Get That A Lot - 8.32m (2.3)

9pm - Mobbed - 3.06m (1.2)
Mobbed, which did decent business out of American Idol and X Factor as a special, bombed on its own. ABC's entire line-up rose from most recent broadcasts, most improving from season/series lows just before Christmas. CBS' reality special I Get That A Lot did alright.

13 weeks is too much and it showed when Channel 4 did it, 9-10 weeks is more than enough for the regular series. The Olympics is going to hurt everyone so launching it as early as possible after BGT and The Voice will help momentum.

I would have thought it would be good anti-Olympics viewing for a lot of people.
Olympics is only for 2 weeks or so anyway.

Right/Left wing politics is thankfully only voiced in the Broadcasting forums, I feel like I need a shower after reading some of the threads in there. This thread needs to be 100% politically free.
BBC schedulers have the right to show donkey racing if they want to - it is their job not ours.
Arguably it would outrate Panorama, if only for the novelty factor. I think most people here take you with a large pinch of salt - you are Morecambe to George S as Wise. Personally I enjoy the banter, others may prefer less waffle.
Do we know when Homeland is premiering on Channel 4? I'm up to episode 5 and I'm hooked. A definite big miss from Sky Atlantic, though. They really ought to have Showtime on an exclusive deal as well or at least have made a move for this series. I think it'd be capable of good numbers on Sky Atlantic as well. On Channel 4 I have a feeling it'll struggle. Particularly as it's likely to run until 11.15pm some nights - I've seen running times of 49 minutes for one episode and 57 for another.
