Brilliant EE rating again, I know people are complaining its not 10m+ like previous Jnauarys, but they really have mainetained a steady audience since 25 December!

It was a great episode too, so it deserved to do well.

And the BBC would rather have had Hat Trick's award winning Sky1 sitcom Spy!, rather than their disastrous Royal Bodyguard.

Stella is very good. Once again timeshifting will bring the audience up. The first episode was up to 1.3m before the end of the 7 day BARB period and the repeat showings all buzzed on Twitter.

EE will be over 10 million in the officials. Looks like the last ten minutes hit Corrie hard as well.

If they were to bring The Bill back, it would need a total refresh, and there are two options for it: the soap route with sensationalist stories which whilst interesting, will make the show lose credibility or go for self-contained police-related storylines which will exclude the soap audience completely, but it'll settle down to a good 4/5 million audience. The Bill was a pillar of the Wednesday and Thursday schedules for almost 7 years (02-09) and its solid 5 million performances will probably make ITV wish they didn't tinker with the show. What I would do is launch a new show in the Thursday and Friday 8.30pm slot (once Corrie moves to Wednesdays again) - perhaps a crown court drama may work; so many opportunities, and with an Emmerdale lead-in on Thursday.”

BIB - there was a nurses soap, back in the late 70s/early 80s, on BBC One, called Angels, which was moderately successful and was run by Julia Smith and Tony Holland, who went on to create EastEnders. (Edit: just noticed someone else mentioned this too! )

ITV tried a post-watershed nurses series called Staying Alive in the 90s. It played on Friday nights an bombed.

Coming your way: ITV has in development its own version of Grey's Anatomy (young doctors wanting to make the grade). (This is true, not speculation). Because, after all, ITV Drama stopped being about originality a long time ago ...

Looks pretty good for EE (maybe they were hoping for closer to 10m?) and Stella is doing well for Sky. Yet again, why aren't BBC1 or ITV1 airing this? I'm sure Ruth Jones would rather have her show on a more popular channel, but it seems like Sky are making much more of an effort than either with comedy.”

Ruth Jones is taking the money and running, as are all the people behind the new raft of comedy shows on Sky 1. It's not that the BBC don't want her shows - it's that Sky are cash rich and can pay top dollar for them.

What Sky aren't doing, however, is generating any new comedy stars of their own (as the BBC has done with Miranda and Rev, for instance) ...

I have always thought Casualty would perform better in the 8pm Thursday slot and run for a whole hour.

EE of course was 10.002m total and that is with a CS clash, look what it did to the second CS rating, it sliced 2m viewers of it.

Channel 4 are moving '10 O'Clock Live' to Wednesday nights from 8th February for 10 weeks.

Also according to someone who went to a recent recording of 'Pointless', there will be Saturday night episodes of it in the Autumn, I'm guessing in the pre-SCD slot.

As I've always said, trending on Twitter doesn't mean big ratings. Don't fall for it!!

DOES TWITTER DRIVE TV RATINGS?

Solid rating for Law & Order there. It didn't drop much on last week (in fact I think the share is the same) despite BBC1 aiming tougher drama competition and a lower Corrie lead-in. 4.9m on a Friday is pretty good and ITV should hold on to this show, even if only to keep it on Fridays.

I wonder where they got that idea recently!

Will they take off normal Pointless I wonder or having it running 6 nights a week?

The two 9pm dramas did well I thought, not often you see two dramas not being dented that much compared to their usual ratings.

EastEnders performed well, denting Corrie.

I'm not a fan especially of the Amy/Tamara/Josie docs, thankfully they're restricted to 10pm. It'll be one of those things we'll have to disagree on.

I do hope we see them tackling comedy and homegrown drama again especially with the resurgent of comedy. It's pretty bad that it's been three years since they've debuted an original drama.”

They definately need UK comedy and drama and even 2 UK soaps to balance out the Aussie ones.

It's a pretty good week-on-week hold for L&O - we've seen it drop much more than that in the last 12 months against tough competition. If it can continue getting these kind of numbers for the remaining episodes, which are currently at a slightly higher level than what DCI Banks was doing a couple of months ago against non-drama competition, I imagine it'll get another series for the Friday 9pm slot. I still think, however, it's not reaching its full potential because it's the kind of drama if executed really well should be capable of 5-6m in the overnights. One of the criticisms the show has had is that it's really plot-driven and viewers don't really care for the characters that much, so if there's another series I think they'll need to address that. Also I'd get a good big name older actor to play one of the two lawyers as the 'Order' part of the show has always been the weak link.

Except it didn't get 4.9m, did it....

That said BBC1 paying the price for tearing up its schedule last week, giving LAO a head start on Hustle. I still think people watching Corrie on catch up after EE will also have tipped the balance in LAO's favour. Still, it lost by about 0.5m in the overnights and probably a much bigger margin in the officials.

Good idea to try it in a prime slot. The Weakest Link became an 11m rated hit at its peak, beat Millionaire twice when head to head, and an international phenomenon earning millions for the BBC. It seems to be a much loved show and did great over the holidays.

BBC1 and ITV1 should both be pleased with the 9pm clash ratings. I remember when Hustle and L+O clashed last time on Monday nights, they both were around 5m each.

Sensible move. Avoids Question Time and all the 16-34 shows that air on Thursdays like Celeb Juice and Skins.

Don't think Channel 4 will be too pleased with that New Girl figure, although they have themselves to blame, totally wrong slot for it. BBC Two did very well in the 8pm hour.

Not surprisingly, ABC has cancelled the awfully reviewed sitcom, Work It. Last Man Standing repeats will take over for now. Cougar Town is still unscheduled and looks like it is still set for a March premiere.”

Premiere date will most probably be announced on Tuesday.
