Think NBC is considering remaking Borgen but it would be more at home at HBO or Showtime and speaking of Showtime, they managed to trump HBO by winning best drama at the GG with Homeland which is a remake of an Israeli drama.

Showtime seems to get the same acclaim as HBO and they don't spend nearly as much. They pretty much have a drama for every season apart from summer where they just have Weeds and another comedy although i think should either Masters of Sex or Ray Donovan get picked up, they should schedule it for summer.

Considering the opposition, a superb rating for Call the Midwife. It looks like ITV's once upon a time Sunday line-up that wouldn't get beat from January to March is getting beat now!

Borgen would be so much better set in the UK than the US as anyone having seen the show will understand.

In fact you could easily imagine this was based on UK politics in 2010/11

The US Killing remake is not a patch on Forbrydelsen but a BBC/Danish English set remake of Borgen could work well.

Hope someone here sees that and does not just think it cheaper to let them make it in America and buy that in.

The US Killing is good but I worry they're dragging out the original storyline rather than adapt the next series or go in their own direction.

Does anyone know how the two new episodes of Winners & Losers performed on ITV2 last night?

Not great for Wild at Heart, even though I love it last night was quite unrealistic. (More so than usual)

Top Gear also has amazing iPlayer ratings over the christmas period, 1,725,000 being the highest figure with second place McIntyre'sgetting 700,000 less and EE further behind. Puts into context its huge popularity.

Never mind ITV, you should pitch that to the BBC. Ben Stevenson is always telling us how brave he is and how daring are his decisions, after all.....

Borgen is excellent. I'm not sure if we're getting a false picture of the excellence of Danish drama with this and The Killing (not US), but both have the subtlety and shade UK drama seems to have lost.

Notes:
- Endeavour's and Law and Order: UK's rating including HD is from rzt, Endeavour's rating is rounded up, but I don't anticipate will stay in there for many months so no losing sleep if it should be rounded down!
- Also, Take Me Out would probably be in 20th, but it's HD rating is not on BARB, but again, no big deal as it would quickly go from the Top 20 in the next week or two.

Downton Abbey Series 2 started in PBS on January the 8th in the US. Anyone know the ratings?

What a fantastic night for BBC One.Obviously I was completely wrong yesterday and starting away from the junction didn't hurt any of the shows at all...except maybe Countryfile which looks slightly on the low side compared to other ratings but why should they care? Call The Midwife recorded a stupendous rating and Sherlock followed that up with a very good figure.

The darts and Great Barrier Reef recorded great figures for BBC Two. Match of the Day 2 looks slightly low considering the Premiership results of the day and To Boldly Go performed adequately if not brillianly.

OK, ITV1 aren't at crisis levels no matter what has been written today but at the same time that's a poor set of figures for the channel considering what they were airing. I hope this doesn't lead to twist after twist on Dancing On Ice to try and get figures up as that tends to result in more problems. Possibly they should move the performance show to Saturday night and rejig the schedules a bit. Wild At Heart recorded a poor figure relatively speaking and they should possibly let it go after this series. But after saying that it's still not a crisis.

Channel 4 and Channel 5 were slightly squeezed by the other three terrestrial channels but Channel 5 will be especially pleased with their night; staying above 1m from 18.40pm and Channel 4 will be satisifed as they kept above that mark from 8pm.

It was very red... thought I was having a migraine....

Seriously, the work a handful of posters go to to bring collated rating info is impressive and appreciated. Thank you.

Yes because Birdsong starts for 2 weeks, then it's Upstairs Downstairs which will also get high ratings!

What do people think ITV1 should do to try and claim viewers back on Sunday night? Try a reschedule or just accept the defeat?

I think they need to learn that their shows like Heartbeat and The Royal are possibly more appealing in Winter than yet another celebrity dancing show which in honesty is inferior to the Autumn dancing show!

BBC1 had hits last year too with Lark Rise because that's clearly the sort of thing that viewers like on Sundays.

Call The Midwife was a hit because it gave viewers something brand new to watch. Maybe the same old same old is starting to get boring for people!

Yet the continuing Countryfile and Antqiues Roadshow are barely dented (yes, they have off weeks but they bounce back); the soaps seem to continue a pattern of highs and lows despite covering the weeknight schedule; BBC One's same old schedule on a Tuesday is showing no signs of dipping...and Strictly was widely criticised this year while Dancing On Ice is being generally praised (though I know DS isn't the best guide for that kind of thing!)

I agree. I think its terrible when we are talking about ITV or the BBC in some cases relying on certain shows to pull in the ratings.

It gets so boring when we just get the same old shows year after year after year.

TBH I'd love to see EastEnders/Holby City/Coronation Street and Emmerdale run in seasons (not necessarily axed) so other shows are given a chance in their place.

Move Friday's second Corrie there. I think we've learned the 9pm lead-ins mean nothing and the "soap free Sundays" are a total flop when The X Factor isn't on, and even then, if Downton Abbey can follow The X Factor, why can't Corrie precede it?

After Dancing on Ice ends they should move Corrie to the early evening Sunday slot for good - then next year have 'Ice' on Saturday with results on Sunday (pre-recorded the night before if necessary).

Corrie is classic Sunday night TV. Example for later:

7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 The X Factor Results
9.00 Downton Abbey

Not so sure if Emmerdale should go to Sundays as well since its 8pm Thursday episode does really well, but Corrie 100% should.

Curious night. ITV lose by four share points despite having 2.5 hours of DOI, and yet Sherlock undeservedly underperforms slightly and Call The Midwife comes from nowhere to top the night.
Certainly BBC1 is not afraid of attacking ITV these days and maybe have learnt a bit from Larkrise that a warm at heart concept together with big hitting drama is not wasted against perhaps a rather tired looking duo on ITV1.That said maybe a percentage of viewers were tuning into BBC1 early looking for Sherlock (George S would no doubt say looking for Eastenders too ), and I think CTM will struggle to maintain that level leading to ITV1 shading the night when things settle down.
Great night for ratings though-and I think BBC1 has now won 4 consecutive days in primetime. That will end tomorrow night no doubt.
