I felt really emotional reading this thread. It's so nice to hear from animal lovers. I think the suffering of animals upsets me more than anything, whether it is logical or not.
I can't wait to read about how she settles in, and would love some photos. |

Just to add, I live in a flat and would love to home an abandoned cat, but for one thing, I worry that it's cruel. The other thing is we're not officially allowed here, and the rescue places want written permission from the company that maintains the flats, don't they? I did contact one rescue home and they told me they'd need that.

Alao just to add I adopted 2 kittens from Cats protection league & I needed written proof that my landlord was okay with me having them- luckily my landlord s my step dad so that wasn't a problem ![]() I wouldn't worry too much about the cat being an indoor cat, as they can adapt quite well to that lifestyle, my two have ended up being mainly indoor cats now & they're perfectly happy with that. But the fact you aren't allowed to have pets I think is the main concern. Hopefully you ll be able to adopt a cat sometime in the future tho

She looks scared. Was she abused? I'd love to home an abused cat. We took in three rescue cats when I lived with my parents, and at least one was possibly previously abused. I loved the feeling of providing a loving home for them.

Tomorrow!!!!!! They were going to keep her until her stitches were out but they decided that they would prefer we took her asap. I have booked her in with my vet to have them removed. She is really struggling in the cattery environment and they feel it is really not good for her. We have been dashing around like mad things getting everything ready!
Let me know what happens tomorrow, so excited for you! |

http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/pr...petowners.html The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) considers a blanket ban on keeping pets in a property to be unfair under the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. A fair contract, says the OFT, would require the tenant to get the landlord’s consent before bringing in pets, but the landlord should not be able to unreasonably withhold consent http://www.independent.co.uk/money/s...n-1698523.html |

I can't wait to read about how she settles in, and would love some photos. I've had my Bill for a year, and he was a nervous bud, which was putting people off, but he has turned out to be an amazing lap cat. It breaks my heart that he is still terrified of shoe-wearing feet, and i'm pretty sure he's had a few kicks and thumps, but how rewarding when a cat has had such a tough start and you can, if patient, breakthrough it. I saw a great avatar on facebook, with the words: my favourite breed of cat - rescued! it's a nice message. |

me too. I love Stargazer's sense of responsibility, from the offset, a great example for everyone. I always try not to refer to myself as a cat owner if i can help it, but it's custodian.

I saw a great avatar on facebook, with the words: my favourite breed of cat - rescued! it's a nice message. Phoebe who died in July was soooo nervous and slowly but surely she came out of her shell. I will never forgot the night when I was sitting watching TV a few years ago and felt two little paws resting on my leg. I looked down expecting to see her big sister and it was Phoebe. Magic moment! The strange thing is that she and her sister fell out for years and when we moved here last March they were suddenly and beautifully reunited. Sadly four months later Phoebe died of kidney disease. I think her older sister knew she was ill before we did, which is why I feel her sensitivity will make her a wonderful mentor for a little cat. Thank you everyone for your advice and lovely comments and best wishes. I will certainly let you know how we get on! |

Daisy, my other cat, has discovered the "baby's room" this morning. She looked very puzzled and was having a good explore. I reckon we will struggle to keep her from the new arrival. Feel really excited about collecting Honey but also a tinge of sadness as the last time I felt like this I was collecting Phoebe, who is so sorely missed. But as the RSPCA lady said, there is no greater compliment to a passed cat than to want to devote yourself to another little furry friend and give them a happy home.

We are back home and Honey is having a little rest in her bed. She was good as gold in the car but is very worried about it all. She is beyond cute!!!!

Congrats stargazer, I'm sure you've already been told, but get a blanket or towel which your old cat has been lying on and put it close to the new one. Also, do it the other way round so that they both get used to each other's smell before the actual (inevitable) introduction.

OMG!!!! She is sooooo lovely! She loves her little bed I bought from the RSPCA - one of those Danish ones with the high sides. They gave me her blanket and stuffed mouse and she has those. She is loving being stroked and even offered me her head to stroke. But this is the best bit! I put some dried food on my hand and she ate it off my hand. I was stunned. I think that is a good sign.
![]() Thanks for the blanker advice. I am going to do that. Also, my friends suggested stroking with a sock and then doing the same back and forth with the other cat. |

You could also get some toys filled with valerian for Honey, I adopted two very nervous young adult house cats last August, one is so nervous I think something must have happened to her as some point, she is coming along slowly but is so unpredictable at what she will startle at, i.e. a cough, a crinkle of a magazine etc., the other cat is a year older and though nervous she is not to extent of the other one. I've had 35 years of having cats and these two are in their forever home and will be spoiled rotten (within reason) I just take every day as it comes it is such a pleasure to have their company and I'm sure especially in the really nervous one there is a very socially pussycat just waiting to come out.
Good luck with Honey and may Daisy love her new friend in due course! piper |

Thanks Piper! Good to hear other people's experiences. It is a shame she is wearing a neuter collar as it means it is harder to pet her. I was a bit surprised because none of my cats have ever had collars after surgery but then things may have changed in the last 11 years!
