Interested to get your views guys....

I'm tending towards the "nay" side, DWTS may be able to manage it in the US but not sure it would work for SCD.

What do you think?

One season of SCD is enough I think.

Instead of having an extra season of SCD, we should have an alternate dance show for aspiring dancers focusing more on non-ballroom dances like SYTYCD US.

SYTYCD UK 2 was disappointing as most of the finalists including the winner were too old (more over-the-hill rather than up-and-coming). In contrast, the finalists in the US show are mostly in their late teens/early 20s and astounding dancers.

If the two seasons were like the current format,then it would have to run April,May,June.It could be hard finding that many celebs and maintaining the wider public interest,but I would not like to pre-judge it;suck it and see.I would certainly watch.

2 lots of celebs egos a year would be hard going.

There was a precedent for 2 seasons in 1 year:

SCD1 - April 2004 - with 8 couples including Natasha.
SCD2 - Sept 2004 - with 10 couples including Jill and Denise.

Those who remember firsthand may like to comment, whether SCD2 suffered from saturation fatigue. The likes of Jill and Kara will always light up the sky whenever they appear, even if twice a year. It is not the quantity, it is the quality.

As for 8 or 10 couples instead of 14, less was more. Reduced to 8 weeks there would still be time to do all Ten Dances, even room for AS and AT. By the 12th week in SCD9 the celebs were dying on their feet.

I take your points, but I wonder about the difference between it happening twice back then when it was new, and now when it has become established.

Even one series is too much. The number of contestants should be reduced so that all couples can be seen in the first week.
The length of the series was increased because of this mania the BBC has in competing with X-Factor.
It won't get any shorter as this would mean the exclusion of some of the numpties the BBC has found who will improve the ratings in the earlier weeks.
The thought of six months of all the screaming and shouting from the studio audience, seems rather unappealing to me.

No...... i loved this programme and one of my daughters even used to get me the xmas annual as a present but!. my enthusiasm for some reason is starting to fade!... where as i wouldn't even leave my chair and go to the loo for fear of missing a bit of it, i have found now that i am getting so bored with the 'lets take a look at how they got on in practice' bits that i am getting up and roaming about doing other things rather than watching all the tosh,... i think they are killing it with too much stupidity and if it was on twice a year i think i would give up watching it completely......

There always was a joker or two inserted by the Beeb for laughs, like Chris Parker in SCD1.

By SCD9 the joke candidates included Edwina, Nancy, Lulu, Russell, Audley (he was no joke, but his 15 stone coming down accidentally on Natalie's foot would have been excruciating).

Nowadays jokers outnumber dancers, with Strictly not better for it.

The above response to SCD9 has been posted by too many to be an isolated opinion. I myself sat on the sofa and slept through most of SCD9, not waking up until Holly's paso.

The Beeb is taking customers for granted. When a product is first launched in a market it needs to work very hard to attract customers. If after getting established the product gets worse, the momentum of past success will still ensure good sales, even increased sales. Eventually however, customers will turn their backs.

I don't think it would be a good idea - firstly I don't think we have enough celebrities to maintain two series' per year. I don't think it would work that well as the pro dancers are not in rotation like DWTS and we don't seem to have spares we can call on. I think the pro dancers deserve a bit of a break - those who tour on the SCD tour would barely have finished before the next set of celebrities are paired with them.
The show was a very different kettle of fish back in the days of series 1 and 2 and was able to cope with two series in a year, but wouldn't be sustainable under the current format. Plus I think series 1 was a sort of pilot series.

What about a non-celebrity version of people who have done something worthwhile in their community and/or mega fans of the show. Worthwhile ordinary people avoiding the wannabe types that might apply (as on Big Brother). Perhaps people with mild disabilities who would just like to take part?

You could have a panel of pros to judge (with perhaps gentler advice/criticism)

That would be an instant turn-off for most viewers and would never happen.

I can only presume you work for the opposition if you are trying to put this non-starter forward as a programme idea to the BBC!

Think Chris Parker was accidental rather than planned. Unfortunately it set a precedence that seems to have grown out of all proportion.

I would like to see a couple more one off shows maybe, like the charity/Xmas ones, but I suppose a lot of work and prep goes into those so again it eats into the schedules of the pros and production team. They manage two seasons a year in DWTS and a tour as well, but as has been said they do have a big pro "family" on board.

Audley is actually 6 foot 5, 18 stone, with size 16 shoes. It really is a serious ask for him to quickstep or jive. I have no info whether Audley continued to dance after Strictly. Mrs Harrison would not like 18 stone accidentally coming down on her foot, as inevitably happens in dancing.

Each year more celebs are recruited for the express purpose of demonstrating how they cannot dance, a la The Generation Game formula for laughs which Bruce never forgot.

Had SCD9 started with the final 7 celebs rather than 14, it would have been more interesting, finishing sooner and leaving audience appetite for a second helping in 6 months.

I think it would be better to a have another dance show/competition with a different format, not quite sure what but I heard somewhere about a show which paired up dancing on ice people with ballet dancers in a SCD format. I think something like that, where the contestants already have dance skills would work really well.

I also agree that a smaller, more talented cast of celebs would be an improvement.

No. SCD is fine as it is. I love the start in September and the run up to Christmas slot.

I don't see the point in that, yes I want to see talented celebs involved and want them to be there towards the end but part of the entertainment factor for me is watching a complete beginner taken out of their comfort zone. If the criteria was only 'talented celebs' then we woudn't have seen someone like Matt Dawson blossom who was completely hopless to begin with! I also liked Audley Harrison as a contestant - no he was never going to be a great dancer at his size and height but he made up for it in personality and going out there and enjoying himself.

In answer to the OP's question Nay - I think two series would be overkill and rather they concentrate on producing one quality 3 month series a year.
