Martin wins............by about 5 seconds

Alex Dowsett in a very creditable 8th............

Ooh, 5 secs in it! Good win for Martin defending his title after recent problems

With Arndt defending as well the Germans are happy

Phinney rode well and came very close

Dowsett finishes in 8th, great result

Contador was caught

Sad news. Victor Cabedo, who rode for Euskaltel Euskadi in the Tour Of Britain last week, was killed in training this morning.

Car accident. Just 23 yrs old, first season with Euskaltel, had a very promising future seemingly. Incredibly sad news, thoughts go out to his family, RIP

Armitstead has withdrawn from Saturday's road race due to illness. Down to five of the seven allocated places: Cooke, Pooley, Laws, Harris and Colclough.

Apparently: The team have decided not to call in a reserve rider at this stage...

Does this mean she won't be majorly missed? What's going on with our riders? Doesn't seem like we are having much luck atm. Is it just end of season syndrome?

I think Armitstead and Pooley were the main GB hopes for a medal.

Sky's primary focus was for its top riders to peak the Tour, and British Cycling, the Olympics. It is natural the latter part of the season would suffer. They cannot maintain form for a full season taking part in Tours, Olympics and one day races.

It seems Armitstead was focusing on the race and was unlucky to fall ill rather than suffering from fatigue.

I was looking forward to Armistead in the RR , we wont get anything from either race now.

Ah, right, it is as bad as it sounds then. Obviously she was going to be majorly missed, i was hoping that if they didn't need to bring in another rider at least we were okay with the numbers and strength. Pooley is being talked about as team leader, with Cooke in a free-role. Will this open more options within the team perhaps?

And it's GOOOOOLLLLDDDDDDD for Team GB - Lucy Garner wins the women's Junior Road race.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/19678087

I'm presuming highlights will be on the BBC live coverage of the women's race tomorrow

Also tomorrow's Junior Men's race might be live on the Dutch website, www.l1.nl at 10:00 UK time. Since there is no live TV coverage anywhere I'm presuming the stream won't be blocked

It will help you to know that WK Wielrennen means World Championship Cycling and that Beloftenwedstrijd WK means Junior World Championship Race.

Sad news about the cyclist killed in training.

Looks like British cycling has more champions coming through the ranks.

Great news about Lucy Garner

Thanks for the links for tomorrows Junior Men's race, hoping that they do work

Here's Nicole Cooke talking about Lizzie Armistead pulling out and our chances without her:

She won it last year as well..........I bet there's not many who've won junior titles two years running.......

Sky have made their first signing for next year - Gabriel Rasch.

Also news that the giro 2013 will start in Naples and is venturing into the Alps with a stage finish on the Galibier

Nicole Cooke is the only other woman to retain the Junior title. Not a bad omen.

She's the first. Also rumours that Spain will not be able to afford to stage the 2014 World Champs. Wonder if there are any countries that might be willing to step in....

What are the chances we would ever get to host the World Champs again, anytime soon?

1970 - Leicester
1982 - Goodwood

These are our only two times hosting and the last time was 30 years ago now.

Shame about Armitstead, she would have been in good form as unless it's been poorly publicised there hasn't been a women's road race since the Olympics, so fatigue wouldn't be a problem!

Not sure if not having anyone to step in, and having two empty spaces, means there's not much depth to the squad, or there aren't others able to easily step into an 80 mile race.

Couldn't Sarah Storey have had a crack?

Still looking for the live stream, but here's a nederlandstalig film of Lucy's win yesterday.
