Looked to me that Pooley was unlucky not to go with Vos when she jumped across to the breakaway. One of the other dutch riders seemed to deliberately baulk Pooley just as Vos made her attack with Pooley right between the two. Though it would have been hard for Pooley to keep up with Vos in the bridging move, Vos was unbeatable today.
Hopefully Emma gives herself time to make the right decision for herself, her solid performances today and in the Olympic road race show she is one of GB's strongest riders at the moment, and would be a shame to see her walk away.
Today just wasn't her day. Her style of riding on the front is great as a support role to reel in any attacks, or keep the pace high for those that like aggressive races. I.e. a good partner for Armitstead, who is currently GB's best rider now it look like Cooke's on the wane.
Hopefully today's race shows just how entertaining women's road racing is, and I look forward to watching more of it if it gets the coverage it deserves. A lot of the enjoyment is down to the coverage, the commentators on the BBC red button were much more with it than the earlier Eurosport commentary. Just wish they'd show the one day races from the start so we get to ease into it. They don't start football or F1 coverage half way through, cycling should get that same respect.
I was probably a bit harsh earlier to say GB were poor. Looks like several of our riders were caught up in that massive crash, with Colclough having to retire, so with a small team at the start it was all down to tactics and lucky breaks, which is hard to get spot on in the heat of battle and without team radios, even if they were in top form which obviously they weren't. So was always going to be a tough ask as soon as Lizzie had to pull out.
