Re Eurosport not showing the Tour de Suisse this year...........I've remembered that Romandy wasn't on ES this year, it was on Sky

So maybe Sky did a deal with the Swiss to cover their 2 big races.

That might explain why ES isn't showing it but it doesn't explain why Sky aren't showing it live as they did with Romandy...........they've got 4 sports channels to fill............

Cycling Ireland have voted 91-74 against re-nominating Pat McQuaid for the UCI presidency. Without a national nomination he cannot be re-elected. But, he has a chance of a Swiss nominaton.

That's promising.

Was that expected? I assumed he would get through.

I think no-one had any certainty of how the vote would turn out.

I'm assuming either ITV4 will have their evening 19:00 highlights show and/or Eurosport have highlights around 9pm each night?

We had neither in the Giro and the Eurosport highlights were 11:30pm most nights.

Well its pretty much it racing wise now for. A fortnight, just the national championships everywhere. Are we having both the road race and TT beforehand this year?

Assuming most of the big names are riding, would be good if the road race had some TV coverage.

I checked his old tweets earlier; he said he was back for the Tour.

Off the Giro, and now the Tour, after years of doing all three GTs. He must have fallen from favour at ES.

Here's hoping ITV4 have replaced Liggett and Sherwin for this year's coverage.

I got the impression that Harmon had chosen to have a break..........to 'spend more time with his family'.........after globe trotting for the last 10 years

ie...........I don't think ES dropped him

I'm not at all keen on the two Pauls............I think they're incredibly wooden and very poor commentators

Geez..............what a choice, Carlton or the two Pauls

I'd probably go with Carlton...............

yep Paul and Paul have sold out to the US and now commentate in that style that doesn't really work for us in the UK any more. They will bang on and on and about all the yanks and other stuff and of course ignore any controversial stories too

"Commentary will come, as always, from the irrepressible Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen."

Yea, not the adjective I'd use, maybe... tired, two faced, bull[shooting] pair of [melon farmers] instead.

Actually thinking about it, they are the opposite of irrepressible, they say exactly what their US sponsors want them to say, over and over and over and...

Brisk Tour stage video summaries from Magnus Bäckstedt: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...fLRZ-1nRMMQ28R

Profile of the ITT on Stage 17 has two 2nd category climbs. Rodriguez should limit his losses like in last year's Vuelta.

Stage 18-20 will be tough climbs including twice up Alpe d'Huez on one - the crowds on the climb will be huge. (provided it does not snow )

Team Sky squad for the TdF named! No real shocks, I'm sure most of you could have predicted it on form so far this season. Looks mighty strong.

News from Bradley Wiggins - says he is unlikely to ride another grand Tour. Can't say I'm surprised, the motivation has obviously not been there this year.

It sounds like his days at Sky are numbered. No mention of what his team wants in return for his £1M+ salary. I wonder if Vaughters would re-sign him?

Finally, Jan Ullrich has openly admitted to doping in the German magazine, Focus. That is the Tour winner's decade (1996-2006) written off.

Sad though isn't it that those 10 years were just fraud Tours.

unfortunately it goes far deeper than just those 10 years.

It makes me cynical of all professional sports that do not take robust anti-doping measures. A lot of professional athletes will do whatever it takes to succeed.

Ullrich also seems to think the UCI protected Armstrong:
Quote:
“ "I always knew Lance Armstrong also will not get away, even if it was probably for years protected by one or the other institution and the world governing body," said Ullrich.”

He provided a thrilling Tour in his Bianchi year: http://youtu.be/KwhKLxdkEX4?t=7m10s

He lost all respect when he sued a veteran doping investigator because he thought he could not get proof.
