I was wondering why the ITV4 coverage was bigging up Team Cannondale so much today, and then realised they were American (Sponsors at least).

plus.............they did ride a fantastic race today for Sagan

blew Cav and the other sprinters out of the water

I was watching on ES rather than ITV and they were also saying what a brilliant team performance by Canondale

It was... It was just them (and a little help from Orica) vs Lotto-Omega-Argos.

They kept them at around 2:35 for a fair few km's. They broke the back of 3 teams at least there...

Impressive imho.

Anyway....

Rumours that the Peloton are going to team up against Team Sky tomorrow... Interesting.

I want Froome to win, but i would like to see the Peloton make him 'win' ... If you know what i mean! :/

Should be the first big GC battle tomorrow*............

I don't think any of the GC contenders were in the Cav group today, I think they all got in the front group...........

* in theory that is !...........in practise all the GC contenders will probably huddle together and ride up the mountains in convoy

Has the look of a Voeckler or Rolland win today, Froome likely in yellow at the end of it.

Could see Dan Martin going well, as an outsider.

Bertie and Saxo bank will try something today.... Let's be fair they have too!

Voeckler is suffering from sunstroke, so he might not try anything today.

Hopefully Froome will lay down his marker today... It's up to the peloton to keep up with him and Sky.

Looks like Sean Yates book should be good.

He's on Eurosport today, and he just insinuated that Wiggo threatened to walk out of the tour after Froome broke his promise not to attack until 500m to go on stage 7 last year.

No wonder their not great mates!

Yeah I saw that it's a shame Wiggo is not here as there could have been some proper fireworks!

The more I see of Froome on the box the more apathetic I get. I would like someone else to win frankly.

Ouch! Photo of Tony Martin's missing skin (not for the faint hearted): https://twitter.com/SamvanRooy1/stat...209792/photo/1

Voeckler went pop very quickly

I am getting irritated with Carlton pronouncing Gesink as Jesink when it is nearer Hesink. Only 10mins to 5Live Sports Extra.

Interesting to see Quintana take a bottle from a spectator on the route and drink it. Thought those days were long gone.

Andy Schleck made it over the top with the lead group.

Froomedog.... That is all.

Great try by Quintana.... Could have been interesting if he could descend, but Sky still have the Peloton in their pocket...

As for Contador... :/

Kreuziger was having to wait for Contador who looked very uncomfortable in the saddle.

Only the first mountain stage, but the peloton was thinned to thirty or so riders at the base of the final climb. Sky shattered the group on the climb with the thirtieth rider six minutes down! http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/...-Ax-3-Domaines

I wonder if the elimination time will be hard for the gruppetto?

GC is over, that was a truly epic stage.

Looks like Brailsford made the right decision on Froome (and Wiggo, if he'd been fit). Can't see anyone catching Froome now, crashes aside.

Brilliant from Froome................I can see why he's not popular as he's a bit of a sourpuss but at least he attacks..........makes for more interesting racing !

I got fed up of Carlton banging on about Quintada's chance of winning the stage...............OK, Carlton, you'd had a bet on him but try and be a bit more impartial !..............

At least Sean was there to pour cold water on his chances.............

ITV4's coverage was terrible, way too many ad breaks near the business end completely ruined it for me.

Had a great day out watching the riders go by today. The whole atmosphere was fantastic and it's good fun watching all the pre-race cars etc chucking out their free gifts as they go - I'm now the proud owner of a Tour de France 100 Skoda beanie hat !!!

Yeah, seemed every 10 mins. Kept switching over to see how the women's Wimbledon final was going at each ad break and missed Froome's attack to take the lead.

Oh well, will see if the highlights are any better later.

I didn't see your village on the telly but they only showed the last 50K or so with the two big climbs............

One good thing about Eurosport is that they do tend to tell you when it's the last ad break of the day..............they'll say 'and now it's the last ad break before we settle down for the stage finish'............today it was before the final climb

Froome's time on the final climb was the third fastest in Tour history around 15 seconds slower than Armstrong in 2001: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VxhmQM0nhN....58.10+AM.jpeg.
(From the Science in Sport article)

In 2001 the stage took a similar time but was 30km shorter: http://youtu.be/4QJXabYTLp8?t=1h25m50s

Personally I think its good to see one of the favourites taking the race to his opponents and attacking rather than what had become the fashion of marking them and trying to gain time in time trials or just in the last few hundred metres of a mountain finish
