pictures are in on Eurosport

113K to go............breakaway nearly 12 minutes up the road

Two races in one today.........the race for the stage win amongst the guys in the break. It seems unlikely they'll get caught as Sky are not going to chase them down

The race for the yellow jersey in the peloton

Having the break so far ahead suits Sky as it takes away any chance of a stage win for the lads in the peloton and makes it less likely that some of them will attack on the climbs and maybe allow a contender to get away with a group of riders

It will be interesting to see how the breakaway survives over the two CAT 1 climbs and how much time will be left. I think the 12 minutes of now will be cut by half which Sky won't care about.

But if the likes of Nibali and Evans attack then the response from Sky could cut it quickly.

They all signed big money contracts to become one of Brailsford's borgs - personal ambitions subordinate to team objectives.

I cannot see how hanging off the back of the peloton in the Pyranees prepares Cavendish for Box Hill. As he has missed many sprints so far holding out for the Champs d'Elysees does not look worth it.

Hushovd's mare of a season continues: he is out of the Tour of Poland and unlikely for the Olympics. Boonen has also retired to give his injuries time to recover before the road race a week on Saturday.

I guess giving Cavendish the Olympic title and the World Championship race and Froome the Vuelta could keep everybody happy.

Harmon quoting extensively from an interview with Froome in L'Equipe

The gist of it...........Froome will do his job as lieutenant unless he thinks Wiggo is cracking in which case he'll go for it himself............(that just seems pretty obvious team tactics)

he expects that if the Tour next year has more mountain top finishes the Sky riders will show the same loyalty to him as he is showing this year.............he thinks he can win the Tour but probably not with Sky................

He seems to be saying that when the course is more suited to him he expects to be team leader and if that's not going to happen he'll have to find another team...............

Being so blunt in public during the Tour suggests Froome is not looking for a compromise on a lesser grand tour.

Schleck caught it in the neck earlier from Kelly.

Wasn't wrong about Schleck, though, was he? Best bit was when the camera cut to Sagan a few moments later: "Now there's a rider"

Can't be that steep at the bottom as Cavendish is doing the pace setting. Is this to get him safely to the summit in the last four where he will drop away?

He was spot on. No place for him at An Post if RSNT fold.

Andy Schleck is talking about a slow recovery with no mention of returning at the Vuelta.

Blimey, how is the peleton going to cope with that summit?

Im a bit of a novice in terms of following cycling, but have loved watching this year and picked up quite a lot..
One thing though... If Chris Froome is second overall and only 21, why isnt he leading the "best young rider" competition... saying that, why is Sagan not in contention either?

Froome is 27, not 21.

Sagan is 6th in the white jersey comp, but almost an hour behind. He lost a stack of time in the TT and the Alps.

That could be Evans out of the Tour. He gets a puncture and the BMC one gets a puncture.

Back luck. But should Wiggins and co wait.

Has someone been out with the tin tacks? So many punctures.

They tried to, but now that Roland has attacked they shouldn't.

Ah, ok thanks. I thought Froome was a complete novice...
So sporting that the main peloton are waiting for Evans...

Similar thing happened to Evans in the Vuelta 09 on a final climb. That time they did not wait:

Sanchez attacks when Sagan is having a bite to eat! Nobody is going to help Sagan out, that's for sure.

Loads of punctures for the peloton but none for the breakaway group at the front

If it is tacks or the like , would seem likely that they have only been put down recently so maybe on camera ?
