I didn't know the answer but I've found a site that lists some Tour records......

http://www.cyclinghalloffame.com/rac..._de_france.txt

8 stage wins in one Tour is the record - it's been done 4 times, twice by Eddie Merckx

No team records there...........I'm not sure they've always had 'teams' in the same sense that they do now. I think in the past they've had 'national'' teams and also people could just enter as individuals..........though in modern times it's been sponsored trade teams

I do love stats and history and things of that nature, so I do thank you for that.

Thing is the Sky team bosses are just that who have total control as this tour has shown to an extact with all the riders told to back Wiggins.

The FA get told what to do by the Premier league and its members.

Just looking at those records, I didn't quite realise how much of a beast Eddy was!

Yeah...........in 1969 he won the Yellow Jersey, the points jersey, the king of the Mountains and he would have won the Young Rider jersey if they'd had one then...........

I think he's probably the most famous rider ever ?...........probably the only one i'd heard of before i started watching the sport on eurosport in the 90s

The other prob Miguel Indurain who won 5 Tour De Frances in a row in the 90s, he was a beast at the Time Trials, & won 2 Giro D Italia's in a row, at the same time he was winning the TDF

Is there much footage of him (Eddy), as I have never seen him before (racing that is).
I think that Lance maybe more famous, just purel because he was racing in the mass multimedia age.

There's a terrific documentary called "A Sunday in Hell" about the 1976 Paris-Roubaix (I think the whole thing is on Youtube). Lots of great shots of Merckx, but it's amazing how ungainly he looks compared someone like Wiggins.

Ahh, many thanks, I will have a look for that later.
As I say, I love the history of things, so I will look foward to that.

Big breakaway going on...maybe see a late burst from the sprinters as on Friday when Cavendish won.

There were only 2 or 3 in the breakaway on Friday. This is more serious at 11. The main bunch still have time, though, and it looks like they're winding it up now. They've quickly brought it back from 25 to 15/17.

Getting exciting now , no way Sagan beats Cav in the sprint.

Ooh. A mini-break.

I hope they catch and Cav wins, but if they don't I'm rooting for Jens

The gap's beginning to fall now, but none of the chasing teams have taken control yet.

I'm a bit of a novice to cycling but I didn't realise how quickly it could change.

EDIT: Wiggins has bolted.
