As I see it, they are a team, as such, they had a team game-plan from the start. They all seemed to follow the plan and it paid off for them. We should all be enjoying this historic, TdF win. Well done lads!

Don't be ridiculous. That's just his place of birth, because that's where his father was working at the time. He left when he was a baby & was brought up in London by his English mother. He doesn't have a drop of Belgian blood in him.

But you know that, don't you?

Back under your bridge. Go on. Shoo!

A bit of Belgain blood probably helped him to win!

Very much British though.

Will Cavendish leave...he still won 3 stages despite not being the main man this time.

Smiley faces can mean many things. If you were trying to be tongue in cheek, then the wink smiley would probably have been more appropriate. As it is, I too read your post as meaning that you thought Wiggins isn't a true Brit because he was born in Belgium! Meanings can be hard to make out from words if you're not careful

2003 - Lance Armstrong
2006 - Oscar Pereiro (after Floyd Landis stripped of title)

Any idea how average speeds for the 3 TT's this year compare to those in the past?

Two long TT's in 2003:
Stage 12 - 47km - Jan Ullrich - 58.32 (48.17 km/h)
Stage 19 - 49km - David Millar - 54.05 (54.36 km/h)

Two long TT's in 2006:
Stage 7 - 52km - Serguei Gonchar - 1.01.43 (50..54 km/h)
Stage 19 - 57km - Serguei Gonchar - 1.07.45 (50.48 km/h)

Two long TT's in 2007:
Stage 13 - 54km - Alexandra Vinokourov - 1.06.34 (48.66 km/h)*
Stage 19 - 55.5km - Levi Liephiemer - 1.02.44 (53.06 km/h)

Two long TT's 2012:
Stage 9 - 41.5km - Bradley Wiggins - 51.54
Stage 19 - 53.5 km - Bradley Wiggins - 1.04.13

*(Vino was DQ'd eventually and the win given to Cadel Evans at 1.14 more. The stage looks to be quite bumpy!)

Dave Zabriskie holds the record for the fastest long TT speed in 2005
Stage 1 - 19km - 20.51 (54.67 km/h)

He is British.

Chris Froome on the other hand.

Too late to edit but Chris Boardman holds the record for the fastest speed for a stage in the 1994 Prologue - 7.2km in 7.49.97 for an average speed of 55.12 km/h.

See what you mean......not technically British then.

Born in Kenya and brought up in South Africa, since spring 2008 he has ridden under a British licence on the basis of his passport and father's and grandparents' country of birth.

Average speeds over different courses can be deceptive - it depends on the nature of the course, wether it's flat, hilly, uphill, downhill, straight road or lots of corners etc

I think that determines the time rather than how good or how turbo-charged the rider is

Oh, for sure.
From what I remember of watching Chris in Lille - the course couldn't be better for him - just shy of 5 miles, completely straight, flat and an out-and-back with just a sweeping u-turn - and the fact that he and GAN based their whole season on him winning.

Cav is a phenomenom isn't he?

and I can't wait for the current trend of someone singing the anthem at sporting events to stop, get the blinkin record out again, someone singing it loses all its gravitas....

He ought to leave if he could get similar money at a very strong team built around him as at HTC. With such a team he could beat the Tour de France stage record in the next 2 or 3 years. At a team set up like Sky he'd have to remain the fastest sprinter for twice as long.

Cav may became the greatest sprinter of all time,he needs to win more.

Agree about the anthem, but i doubt that it will stop soon unless every govt. will intervene and draft a law to it.

Me too, and for L'Equipe readers as well (previously mentioned in the thread):
"It was not by chance, then, that L’Équipe voted Cavendish as the greatest sprinter in Tour history during this year’s race, a result that met the approval of no less a figure than André Darrigade. “I'm happy that, on numbers at least, I can be secure of that award,” Cavendish said."
